Last Call Alert! Tonight is the last night BEFORE our Fun Run event.
Here’s what you need to know:
✅ Get those pledges in.
✅ Get a good night’s sleep.
✅ Wear comfy shoes tomorrow.
✅ Hydrate and have a good breakfast.
✅ Celebrate how hard your student has worked!
The event times are as follows:
Kindergarten/1st Grade Fun Run: 9:15am
2nd Grade Fun Fun: 10:30am
5th Grade Color Run: 1:00pm
3rd Grade & 4th Grade: Color Run: 2:00pm
If you are able to come and cheer on your student, please make sure you enter through the front office, sign in and receive a visitor’s sticker. Arriving no more than ten minutes before the event should be plenty of time for you to do those steps and meet them outside. Arriving before that may cause congestion in the front office.
Thanks and we hope to see you there!

This is Mrs. Dunn calling to remind you of what’s happening at school for the nextweek. We have the Apex Team on campus teaching our students that being reliable, coachable, and having empathy will help them Level Up their Leadership skills. Ask your child what leadership lesson they learned today! The Apex team will be putting on a huge event on Thursday, September 18 th to celebrate everything they learn and the money we raise!
Students are aiming to get pledges from 10 sponsors to help raise money for the school, and they are earning thank you gifts for their pledges. On average students complete between 30 minimum and 42 maximum laps with 42 being the most they can get credit for. So if a pledge is made for $1 per lap, the donation should be around 36 dollars. To donate, please check out your student’s “Apex VIP Badge” that was sent home earlier this week. All
instructions are inside. Just go to www.myapexevent.com and use your student’s special “access code” printed on their VIP Badge to log in and enter your pledges. If you cannot find your code, just email info@apexleadershipco.com. This helps the school and helps us keep
track of pledges. Remember to login and select your student’s shirt size online because every student will receive a free shirt on event day! Thanks so much and have a wonderful weekend.

This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn. Thank you for your help with ensuring that morning and afternoon carpool has gone smoother this week. Just a few additional reminders that will improve it even more. When in carpool, all students should be seated inside of the car. Students should not be standing in the sunroof or hanging out of the car windows. This is a safety concern. Also, in the afternoon, as middle school walker parents are waiting, lots of students are playing in the grass. Please make sure that the adults are watching these students and keeping them contained so that they do not enter the traffic. We want all students to remain safe. If you are arriving in the morning and parking in our lot, the parking spaces where carpool does not line up is for staff members only. Due to parents parking and walking their students in, there are not enough available parking spaces for our staff members. We are finishing in the afternoons by 4:30 at the latest, so please join us before then.
Starting Monday, September 8th, our Apex Fundraiser and Leadership Challenge, also known as our “Fun Run” kicks off. The students will have a pep rally Monday afternoon explaining the program to them. For our families, Apex provides an amazing two-week interactive leadership program combined with a fitness-focused event fundraiser that helps schools all over the country raise funds the healthy way. During the fun-filled program, Apex encourages development of leadership habits, good character, and fitness.
Every student at our school participates in the daily leadership and character
lessons, receives daily lesson silicone wristbands, enjoys classroom & school
wide rewards, and takes part in the celebratory, high-energy fitness event, regardless of financial participation in the fundraiser. Our event date is September 18th.
Last year we began raising funds from our Fun Run dedicated to shade structures on the playground. The money raised last year was set aside and we hope to combine it with this years Apex Fun Run Profits to be able to finally purchase those structures.
Thank you for your support and have a wonderful weekend.

JCPS continues to shine! 🌟
We are excited to announce that Johnston County Public Schools has continued its journey to becoming one of the best districts in the state, according to 2024-2025 data recently released by NCDPI.
A few of the district highlights included a significant increase in student proficiency scores and school performance grades, with 93% of our schools having a school letter grade of A, B, or C! 75% of our schools met or exceeded growth, which is well above the state average.
Amazingly, 15 of our schools rank in the top 20% statewide, with seven schools in the top 10% for growth! Graduation rates for JCPS schools continue to rise, with JCPS reaching 92.5%, which is significantly higher than the state average of 87.7%
A huge thank you to our incredible educators, hardworking students, and supportive families for helping drive this success forward! 📈

This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn, with your updates for the week. We have officially made it through the first week of School and overall, it went pretty smoothly! Tomorrow, Tuesday, will be independence day for students - where all students, K-5th grade, will be walking themselves to class. Exceptions will not be made unless it is your child's first day of school with us. Thank you for your patience and kindness, while all of the ins and outs are figured out with our new carpool system. The morning has been running very smoothly and this week, now that everyone has seen the new pattern, we hope that afternoon will be as well. Just a few reminders that will also help ensure the effectiveness of carpool. Since students walk by themselves now, in the morning, please do not park and walk students to the building. This includes parking at the middle school, as well as on the grass by the mobiles. This slows traffic moving and all students can enter through carpool. Also, all cars must enter carpool off of Highway 210. No cars will be allowed to enter off of Highway 50. Please remain in your vehicle while in carpool in the morning and afternoon. For the new afternoon process, if your child does not come out the first time their name is called, you will pull to the middle row into a parking space (which is marked by cones). We will recall your student and walk them over to you. At first it takes some adjustments, but eventually this will only be a few cars. By moving cars to the middle, the rest of the line can exit the parking lot. Then once you have your child, you can back out and exit without having to re-enter the line.
In other information, earlier today a link was shared on our facebook page to our Parent Newsletter. This will be shared quarterly. Inside of the newsletter is a Parent Hub, where any links you may need have been attached. We hope this will help you feel connected and have everything at your fingertips. This will also be shared as a story on our Class Dojo. Events have also been updated for the month of September on our Digital Marquee in our front parking lot. The beginning of grade test, otherwise known as BOG, will be given to third graders on September 4th.
Thank you for your support and teamwork with making sure that this school year is great! Have a good evening.

This is your principal, Lyndsey Dunn with information about our first day of school, Monday, August 25th. We are so excited to welcome our students and families back into the building, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Our tardy bell will ring at 8:55 a.m.
If you choose to, you may park and walk your child to their classroom door and wish them a good day. All parents/guardians must walk through the Front Entrance and through the Evolve Weapons Detection System. Teachers will be busy starting their day with their new students so they will be able to say hello, but will not be able to have long conversations. We ask that you reserve longer conversations for phone calls or conferences. On Wednesday, August 27th, we are declaring “Independence Day '' for our 1st through 5th grade students to begin walking to their classes without an adult on this day and through the rest of the year. Staff on duty at the front entrance will be holding firm to this, so please be understanding if they remind you that our students need to walk alone. Kindergarten students begin with half of the class on Wednesday and half of the class on Thursday, while everyone will be on campus Friday. Kindergarten parent/guardians may walk their child on their half day and Friday. Kindergarten students will walk by themselves, with staff support, on Tuesday, September 2nd.
If your child is a bus rider and you did not receive a bus pass at Open House, we had you go to the cafeteria requesting bus transportation. Those requests have been put into the system and routes will be assigned as quickly as possible by the county transportation department, but please remember a bus assignment is not guaranteed for the first week of school. As soon as your child is assigned to a route, you will be notified. Therefore, your child will need to be a car rider until you receive a call saying that your child has been assigned to a bus. Be prepared for buses to run behind schedule for the first few weeks of school. Once a routine is established, the time frames will improve. Please join the Edulog app if you would like to be notified when your child is on the bus, as well as keep track of their daily journeys.
Car rider parents, the tag has to be hanging from the rearview mirror and remain there until your child has loaded in your car. We ask that you not get out of your car while in the car rider line, so that we can safely and quickly keep it moving. There is a video with visuals regarding our carpool process and how it works, posted on our school facebook page. This year the car pool procedure is different - please be aware! All cars must enter the parking lot off of the Highway 210 entrance. If you do not follow this rule, you will be told to turn around in the middle school parking lot and turn around to go back onto Highway 50. Please do not become frustrated with staff when this rule is enforced. We know that Carpool takes a while but always show kindness while on school property. If you do not have your car rider tag with you, even if you attend car rider line daily, you will be asked to park and enter the building, to show your ID before receiving your child. This is for safety and security purposes.
Middle School walker parents, must be waiting on the grass when you see the kids walking across the crosswalk and you must have your tag. If you do not, your child will not be released to you and you will have to come into the building in order to show your ID. Middle school sibling walkers is a privilege, so please help us be safe.
Save yourself some time from packing lunch boxes, and remind your child that breakfast and lunch are free this year for all students.
If you ordered a First Day of School Supply Kit through our PTA, those boxes have been dispersed and are waiting for your student in their homeroom class.
Thank you in advance for support this year and we look forward to seeing all of those smiling faces on Monday. Get some rest!

This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn, with your first message of the 25-26 school year. Tomorrow night we will have our Open House where you can meet your child's teacher. Students with the last name beginning A-L can attend from 4:00 - 5:00 pm and students with the last name beginning M-Z can attend from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. When you arrive, please enter through the front of the building where you will pass through our weapons detection system. If you know your child's teacher, you can head there after you enter. If you do not know your child's teacher, people will be posted throughout the building with a list and can let you know. You may notice a change in our carpool flow when you enter the parking lot. Please just follow the paved lines and a detailed map with voice directions will be shared with families before Monday. There will be another message sent out on Friday regarding the information first week of school. Please be on the lookout for that! We are excited to have students back in the building and will open the doors promptly at 4:00 to welcome you with a smile. Have a good night.

Johnston County Public Schools is committed to providing quality education to its students and professional learning environments for its staff, free of distractions, and supporting high-quality teaching and learning, enhancing student well-being, and maintaining a safe and focused school environment.
Recent studies indicate that cell phone use, particularly for social media and interaction, can interfere with students' ability to focus on learning and negatively impact students in many ways. Excessive use of cell phones and social media has been linked to lower academic performance, increased behavioral issues, and other conditions that hinder students' ability to excel.
In recent legislation, House Bill 959, Session Law 2025-38, revisions were made addressing clear guidelines for the use of cell phones to include educational purposes. The Johnston County Board of Education has adopted Policy Code: 4318 Use of Wireless Communication Devices.
Families are strongly encouraged to review the policy in its entirety.

This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn. I hope you are having a wonderful summer, but I sure am missing you in our building. I wanted to send out a few reminders as we are halfway through the summer.
*First, the time has come to register for before and/or after school care for the 25-26 school year. Space is limited. To register, go to our school's website, click on menu, and under the parents section, click on early morning/after school care to find all information needed to register and pay. To reserve your spot you must pay and register. It is first come, first serve and due to the high demand, a waiting list will be formed once the spots are full. Please contact Mandy Bowden if you have any questions. Here information is under the parents section, as well as on our facebook page.
*Secondly, save the date for our Open House for all students Kindergarten through 5th grade. It will be on Thursday, August 21st. Students with the last names beginning with the letters A-L will be from 4-5:00 and students with the last names beginning with the letters M-Z will be from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. A postcard will come in the mail during the August teacher workdays letting you know who your child's teacher is.
*Last, but not least, I hope you are reading! Whether you are getting to go on cool vacations or not, remember Dr. Seuss always said, "Reading can take you places you have never been before." Enjoy the rest of your summer.
