📢It has been reported that JCPS students have received more than 66.2 million in scholarship offerings for the 2024-2025 school year! This is an amazing 18 million more than scholarship offerings received during the 2023-2024 year!📢
A great deal of the offerings have been accepted and will cover tuition costs as these students continue their educational journeys!
💲JCPS is proud of the efforts that go into securing scholarship funding, and we celebrate the students, staff, and parents who work hard to make it happen! 💲
Great things are truly happening in JCPS!

North Carolina is home to a large population of active duty, guard, reserve, and veteran armed services members, and the state’s public schools reflect that.
In 2019, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction launched the Purple Star Award Designation initiative to recognize the state’s strong military presence and support for military families.
The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate military-friendly practices and a commitment to military students and families. JCPS had 17 schools receive the Purple Star Award Designation. They are as follows:
Benson Middle
Clayton High School
Cleveland High School
Corinth-Holders Elementary
Corinth-Holders High
Four Oaks Elementary
Meadow School
McGee's Crossroads Elementary
Polenta Elementary
Princeton Elementary
Princeton Middle/High
Smithfield-Selma High
South Johnston High School
South Smithfield Elementary
Swift Creek Middle School
West Johnston High School
Thanksgiving Elementary
We are proud of these designations and honored to recognize our military families in this way!

It is the last day of school, which means we are just minutes before our students will be enjoying a summer full of fun!
Here's to wishing everyone a safe break!
See you next year!!!

Good evening,
This message is for the families of our fifth grade students. This is a friendly reminder that tomorrow is our fifth grade graduation at 6:30 pm at McGee's Crossroads Middle School.
*Due to other events, parking for our families should only occur in our elementary school parking lot and then walk over. All students and families should enter through the front doors of the middle school.
*Doors will open at 6:00 where families will follow volunteer guidance through the hallways and then be seated in the gym. Graduate and guests must have on their armbands on when they arrive. If babies can be carried, they are allowed to sit in an adults lap, however all other children are also required to have a ticket. There will be multiple administrators and adults at the front door ensuring that armbands are on. Unfortunately, due to capacity of the gym, no exceptions can be made.
During the graduation, we ask that you respectfully remain quiet so that all students get the opportunity to hear their name. We also ask that you stay until the ceremony is completely over. Leaving in the middle of the ceremony is disruptive to the other students and families who have not yet had their special moment yet.
Thank you for your help in making this a special night celebrating our fifth grade students.

Good evening Patriot Families,
This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn, with updates for the week. Thank you for having your students at school and on time for End of Grade testing. I know testing creates so much pressure and anxiety and by our families making sure that your students were here, it helped so much. This upcoming week there are still testing sessions occurring, so please be mindful when entering the building. I want you to know I am proud of each and every student - scores aside, they all took their time, applied strategies and tried their best. That is all we can ask for and we know that it is hard to measure the success of students based on a few days.
Here are some other dates to keep in mind :
*Tuesday, May 20th - 3rd grade awards are in the classrooms at 2:00 pm. Mrs. Cade and Mrs. Carroll's awards are in the media center.
*Wednesday, May 21st - 1st Grade "Grill and Chill" awards will begin at 11:00 am on the 1st grade playground.
* Wednesday, May 21st - 4th Grade awards are in the classrooms at 2:00 pm.
* Wednesday, May 21st - 5th Grade Graduation is at MCMS at 6:30 pm. Please remember you must have a ticket to attend. Tickets will be checked at the front door. This has been communicated with families well in advance through multiple ways.
* Thursday, May 22nd - Kindergarten Awards in the classrooms at the following times :
9:30- Gallagher
9:30- L. Barbour
10:00- Cooper
10:00- Grubb
10:00- Swanner
10:00- Bowden
10:30- Yoder
10:30- Abernathy
*May 22nd is also Early Release. Dismissal will begin at 1:45 pm.
* If you have an rising Kindergarten student for the 25-26 school year, don't forget to go ahead and get them registered. Also please reach out to the scool or look on social media to sign up for an assessment which will be held on the end of year teacher workdays.
Thank you for all that you do. This year has been successful due to the partnership you have with our school. It takes a village and we are so thankful that you allow us to have a role in your children's lives.

Families, Individual score reports will be sent home with 3rd-5th grade students on Friday regarding the math and reading end of grade tests. Science results will not be available this school year, since it is a new test. Please follow up with your child's teacher next week with any questions. Thank you.

Families,
There is a multi-car accident on Highway 40. It does not involve our families, however it is impacting traffic heavily. Please expect delays with bus routes.
We appreciate your patience.

Families of 5th graders,
We understand the frustration of limiting families to four tickets. Though we sympathize with each of you, we must stick to the four-ticket limit as we are at capacity at the middle school gym. When the ticket sign-ups went out, very few families requested fewer than four tickets, and we have had more students enroll since that date. The waitlist was established in hopes of offering an additional ticket, but it was never guaranteed. With 188 graduating students, we are at our seating limit, due to the maximum capacity of the gym.
Students will receive ticket wristbands after graduation practice on the 20th, which will occur during the school day. There will be a graduate band for your 5th grader to wear, along with four ticket wristbands. You will need to show these at the main entrance and the entrance of the gym. You will not be able to enter without a wristband. Administration will be checking for the wrist bands and if they are not present, you will be asked to leave. This does include siblings. The 5th grade team is working hard to make this a special event. Please be patient with us in this matter. This is a tradition we hope to continue for the community, but we need your understanding to make it happen.

This is your principal, Lyndsey Dunn. Tomorrow, Friday, May 9 is our Reading EOG and Monday, May 12 is our Math EOG for our third through fifth grade students. Wednesday, May 14 is our Science EOG for fifth graders only. These tests are important, but they can’t show people how hard you’ve worked and how brave you are for just showing up and trying.
*The best thing you can do is get a good night's rest, and eat a good breakfast.
*Please make sure that your child is on time for school. Once the testing sessions have begun, students will not be allowed to enter the session.
*Once you are here - take your time, use your strategies you’ve learned and show everyone what you know and what you can do. If you give 100%, all anyone can be is just proud of you.
*If you are proctoring, please check in tomorrow morning at the front office.
* Students will not be allowed to have the following in the testing sesion - cell phones, ipads, tablets, smart watches, wireless ear buds/pods. If your child has any of these items in the testing session, this will result in the student having to take the test over again.
*Families, give your students sufficient time to complete their testing and refrain from picking up your students Friday, Monday and Wednesday until 1:30 pm. They cannot be pulled from an active test session and will not be allowed to leave the testing session early.
*EOG score results will not be shared with families until testing for all EOGs are concluded.
*Last, but not least - I believe in the ability of every single one of our students succeeding because our teachers have been preparing them all year long. Have a good evening.

Families,
Here are some updates for the week.
* This week we will be honoring our amazing teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week!! Please take an opportunity to thank our amazing teachers and staff for all they do each and every day for our students and school!
* Our Principal Book Club Party for Quarter 4 will be held Tuesday afternoon.
* Lastly, we will be administering our 3rd - 5th Grade Reading EOG this Friday, May 9. Our students are much more than a test score as we have seen what they are capable of all year long. We know testing brings anxiety so you can help by making sure our students get plenty of rest the night before, eat a healthy breakfast each morning (don't forget that breakfast is free for all students), and arrive to school on time during our testing days. As a reminder, students may not be checked out on Friday or other testing days, until testing has concluded in our building (~ 12:30 PM). We are so proud of our students this year and have no doubt that if they just show what they know, they will excel!

Families,
At this time we are experiencing a district wide internet outage. We do not have an expected time of restoration. This also affects our school phone lines.
Thank you for your understanding.

Families,
Tomorrow, Friday, the Quarter 4 Principal Book Club Logs are due. Please remember to turn those into your child's teacher or electronically. If your child has submitted all 4 Principal Book Club logs, they will receive a t-shirt as well as a certificate. We are so proud of all of our students this year for the amount of reading they have been doing, even if it was only for 1 quarter! The Quarter 4 Book Club Party will be on Tuesday, May 6th.
Also, next week is Staff Appreciation Week. Papers will be sent home with ideas on how to make your child's teacher feel special and it is also shared on social media.
Remember to make note that it our EOG dates shifted a little for our 3rd-5th grade students due to re-testing being offered during the student days instead of on teacher workdays this year. It is also on our scrolling digital Marquee if you spend any time with us in our carpool line.
Reading - May 9th, Friday
Math - May 12th, Monday
Science, May 14th, Wednesday (5th graders only)
Thank you for all that you do.

Summer is nearly here and May holds a lot of important events! 🎓📚
Make sure you don't miss a thing!📅

Good evening Patriot Families,
This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn with a few updates. Please pay close attention if you have a child in the 3rd - 5th grade for some changes that have recently been made with End of Grade testing. The Reading EOG will be given to students on Friday, May 9th as previously communicated. However, the Math EOG will be now given to students on Monday, May 12th. This is a change from what was previously shared. The Science EOG will be given for 5th graders only on Wednesday, May 14th, which is also a change. Due to a state testing memo, some adjustments needed to be made to allow for all requirements to be met. During these three main testing dates, it is very important that we have proctors to make our testing environment function at its best. If you are a level 2 volunteer and are willing to help monitor, please reach out to Mrs. Dunn or Mrs. Foisy. There is also a sign up shared on our social media. If you haven’t done this before, no worries! There is a training that you will be provided with to make you more comfortable.
In other news, this evening is the beginning of Spring Break for our staff, students and families. We wish you a safe, restful and happy break. Our front office will be closed next week and will open when our students return on Monday, April 21st. As always, we appreciate your partnership. Have a good break!

Patriot Families, Friday, April 11th is Purple Up day! McGee's Crossroads Elementary is recognized as a Purple Star School because of the support and appreciation we show for our military families. We are encouraging students to wear purple this Friday to show support for our Military Connected Students.
Also, quarter 4 progress reports will go home Thursday , April 10th.
Thank you.
