Summer Feeding Program

Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2026 Summer Feeding Program. The JCPS School Nutrition Program will, once again, provide free summer meals for children 1-18 years of age.

When the traditional school year ends, the NC Summer Nutrition Programs ensure there are still meals available at no cost for kids who need them, ensuring children continue to have access to healthy meals all summer.

The Summer Feeding Program meals are also available to persons with disabilities, over the age of 18, who are enrolled in a public school program. Children do not have to be enrolled in a JCPS school to take advantage of the Summer Feeding program, and the program is open to all children regardless of county of residence.

Curbside meal distribution will occur weekly from 12 PM - 6 PM at Smithfield-Selma High, located at 700 M Durwood Stephenson Pkwy, Smithfield, NC 27577. The first distribution will occur on Thursday, June 11, and will run through Thursday, July 30.

Meal bundles will include 7 days' worth of breakfast and lunch per child. The menu will rotate on a 4-week cycle and will include popular entrees such as pizza, pasta bowls, deli sandwiches, and cheeseburger sliders, just to name a few.

Finalized menus will be available on the Johnston County School Nutrition website under the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) tab. Households must register by March 31 using the 2026 Summer Meal Pack Order Form.

SUN Bucks Program Offered as an Additional Resource
Another summer resource available is SUN Bucks, a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) program that provides grocery-buying benefits in a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child on a debit-like card that can be used to buy nutritious food during the summer months when schools are out.
