During the July 14th regular scheduled meeting, the JC Board of Education approved revisions to Policy Code 4304: Code of Student Conduct.
There was special attention to Section F. 36, which provides governance for the "Possession, Display, Use, Sale or Distribution of Vapes".
Revisions define vapes and expresses that there will be a 10-day suspension for any student in violation of the code.
We strongly encourage parents to speak with your child(ren) regarding the details of the policy and the consequences moving forward.
Please know that the Johnston County Board of Education strives to mitigate health and safety concerns related to harmful substances such as tobacco products and/or vapes. The revised verbiage and the associated penalties have been set to achieve this goal.

As we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, on Monday, July 27th and Tuesday, July 28th, JCPS Information Services, Transportation and Student Services departments will be hosting a Summer Information Fair at three locations: Cleveland High, Corinth-Holders High, and Smithfield-Selma High.
Families can visit any of these three campuses from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM to complete new enrollment applications, receive status updates on existing enrollment applications, and collect required enrollment documentation. Parents will be able to receive information on how transportation is provided, request transportation if they did not use it the previous year, or discuss any summer address changes that impact transportation. Student Services will also be available to provide student resources.

It is hard to believe that the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, and the first year at the new Wilson's Mills High School is just a little more than a month away. I know that some may not be excited that summer is coming to an end, but I can not fully express to you how excited I am to welcome our staff, students, and families into this beautiful facility; and to start a new legacy for WMHS.
We will have the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the opening of Wilson's Mills High School on Sunday, August 2nd at 3pm. We will cut the ribbon at our front entrance right at 3pm and then we will have a short ceremony in our auditorium. After the ceremony we will be dedicating our library and offering tours to anyone wanting to see our beautiful campus.
We will have a Freshman and Sophomore Orientation to help familiarize our students to our school and our expectations. Our Freshman Orientation will take place on Tuesday, August 4th from 9am to 11am; and our Sophomore Orientation will take place on Thursday, August 6th from 9am to 11am. We also need at least one parent/guardian to attend with your student so you are also aware of this very important information. Students and parents will also have an opportunity to learn about the different programs, opportunities, extra-curricular activities, and organizations that will be offered at WMHS this year. Our PTSO has scheduled to have a couple of food trucks for you to purchase food and drinks after the program (you can take it to go or you can eat in our cafeteria).
Our Open House will take place on Tuesday, August 18th from 4pm to 7pm. Freshman can come with their schedules (you will access through Infinite Campus' Parent Portal- we will have a copy here if you need one) and meet your teachers from 4pm to 5:30pm. Sophomores can come with their schedules and meet your teachers from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.
The first day of school for students is on Monday, August 24th (carpool will start at 6:35am- the tardy bell is at 7:15am; dismissal is at 2:15pm)

The JCPS 2026 Leadership Conference wrapped up today!
The final day began with the announcement of our 2026-2027 Principal of the Year Maritza Rosado of Selma Elementary, and Assistant Principal of the Year Tamara Brock of South Smithfield Elementary.
Our administrators and staff left equipped with valuable knowledge, tools, and techniques to lead their school communities to continued success!

Leadership 2026 has begun!
New principals and assistant principals are engaging in 7 sessions of informative and instructive leadership training.
The passionate group of 26 administrators will receive presentations on curriculum and instruction, relationship development, accountability, effective hiring practices, district practices and standards, and much, much more.
This group of strong leaders are proof that the future is bright for JCPS!
