GKE Kindergarten Readiness Night

Please join us to see classrooms, meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, and receive information to help make your child's transition to "big school" as smooth as possible.
Good evening, Wildcats parents, students, & staff. This is Mrs. Brock Assistant Principal at Glendale- Kenly Elementary calling to share information about this week. All students are preparing for the end of this school year. K-2 students have started their final end of year assessments. Grades 3-5 will begin their End-of-Grade tests on Thursday this week with Reading; Math on Friday; & 5th Graders will take their Science EOG next Wednesday, 5/29. Please help students prepare by getting plenty of rest the night before. Breakfast will be offered each morning for free just as it has been all year long. We are looking for great results showing how much your child has grown this school year.
Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day and schools will be closed in observance of the holiday. We hope you & your family have a safe, enjoyable, weekend.

Buenas noches familias y empleados de GKE. Estoy llamando de parte de la Sra. Brock directora asistente de la escuela. Queremos compartir información acerca de lo que estará pasando esta semana. Todos los estudiantes se están preparando para el final del año escolar. Los estudiantes de kinder a 2do grado han comenzado sus evaluaciones de final de año. Los estudiantes de 3er a 5to grado tendrán su examen final de lectura el jueves y el de matemáticas el viernes. Los estudiantes de 5to grado tendrán su examen final de ciencias el miércoles 29 de mayo. Por favor ayuden a sus estudiantes a estar listos asegurándose de que duerman lo suficiente la noche anterior. La escuela ofrecerá desayuno gratis cada mañana como lo ha estado haciendo todo el año. Estamos esperando ver muy buenos resultados que verifican todo el progreso que sus estudiantes han hecho este año.
El lunes 27 de mayo es “Memorial Day” y los estudiantes no tienen escuela. Esperamos que usted y su familia tengan un buen fin de semana.

End of the Year Awards will be June 4th Kindergarten - 4th Grade and June 5th for Pre-K and 5th grade.
Congratulations to Clifton Wheeler and Serenity Creech. Their artwork has been chosen for the 2024 Elementary All-County Honors Art Gallery.

The Gallery will open at 3:00pm in the Selma Elementary Auditorium Lobby on Saturday, May 4th. Students are invited/encouraged to stay for the concert, where they will be asked to stand to be recognized. The gallery will also be open for 30 min after the concert

There will be a PTA meeting and then a concert by our Second and Third grade classes. The Glendale- Kenly Jazzy Cats and Violin Classes will also perform.
JCPS is looking for Reading Buddy volunteers to help our students this summer! We need parents, grandparents, community members, and high school students to join our Summer Reading Camp participants during morning arrival.
Volunteers will listen to and encourage students as they develop their reading skills. No experience is required, but you will need to register and be a volunteer with JCPS before you begin.

Local author Julie Johnson visited Glendale-Kenly Elementary during Read Across America Week. To the delight of all kindergarten and first graders, Johnson read her book "Bessie" about a cow and her adventures on the Johnson farm. 📚

Tuesday, March 5 is a Teacher Workday. There will be no school for students.
Friday, March 8, some of our students will be participating in the Science Olympiad. Also on Friday, our Jazzy Cats will be performing at Showcase of the Stars at 7pm at JCC.
We do have one reminder for the following week. Math Night will be held on Monday, March 11. Please join us!
