Thousands of supplies. Hundreds of donors. One common goal…helping those in their time of need. ❤ Today our Facility Services team gathered supplies from our schools, which were Hurricane Helene Relief donation sites. In a few hours, these supplies will be transported to Western North Carolina. Thank you to the many, many students, parents, and staff who have responded promptly and compassionately. Also, a special thanks to Johnston County Government and the Johnston County Sheriff's Office for allowing us to partner with you in this effort. 🤝

JCPS communities came together in an extraordinary way for our neighbors in Western North Carolina! 🌟 Donations from our schools for the Hurricane Helene Relief filled three dump trailers, three 3 box trucks, two pickup trucks, and two vans! This outpouring of kindness, compassion, and generosity is what our school system is built upon. We thank everyone involved in this effort! Happy Friday, Explorer families! This is your Principal, Lauren Sabo with some updates for the week. Mark your calendars for October 17th for the Enhancement Team's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Come out to enjoy a night of festivities with your family and meet the new members of our Enhancement Team. On Monday, our 3rd graders will finish their CogAt testing. The rest of the week all of our classes will continue to focus on their curriculum and learning. Our students did a fantastic job transitioning to their AIR groups this week, and I am so proud of their hard work and focused behavior. Our teachers and students are working hard toward their goals; for those of you who came to our AVID night, you were able to set some goals with your child. Our school has a goal this year of increased academics and improved behavior, and teachers and students have individual goals to help us reach them. Now, we have a goal for families: Did you know that during the month of September, we had 358 student tardies? That works out to be about 18-19 students per day who are late to school. Our instructional day begins at 8:55am, and teachers jump right into learning at 9am. We need all students here in classrooms at that time. Did you know that during the month of September, we had 446 early student check-outs? That works out to be about 23-24 students per day who are leaving early from school. Our instructional day ends at 3:55pm, and academics continue until that time. For even our youngest learners, we have Reading groups at the end of the day this year. If your student leaves early, they miss important instruction which is necessary time for us to be sure your child exceeds their growth this year. As a goal for the month of October, we are going to try to decrease each of those numbers by 10%. That means we will decrease our tardies by 36, and our early check-outs by 45. Set those alarms in the mornings to get to school on time, and don't check-out your child early unless it's absolutely necessary. We appreciate your partnership as we all work together to Build STRONG Explorers this year! Have a great weekend!
