Happy Friday, Explorer Families! Here are some updates for the week ahead:
On Monday, students will not have school in observance of Veteran's Day. We want to thank all veterans and military service members on our staff and in our community. All of us appreciate and thank you for the work that you do.
Be on the lookout for some items that have come home with your child. You should have received a packet from the PTA regarding our current School Store fundraiser. Please sign up your child to help support our school.
We also ask that all families join the PTA. Joining the PTA is small donation that helps our PTA operate. They do a lot to support our students, teachers, and community, and this membership fee allows the work to continue.
Finally, we hope you received our Disguise a Turkey family craft activity. We hope that you choose to participate and have fun with this family craft. We will place these on display for our classes to do a "Gobble Wobble" to view everyone's work. Reach out to your child's teacher with any questions.
Have a great weekend!

Good evening, Explorer Families!
This year, our school is participating in a unique fundraising program with Art To Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items with your child's artwork on them. The best part is that every keepsake order supports our school! Don't miss out! Now is the time to place your order! These items make great gifts for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and any other important person in your child's life. The deadline to order is Friday, November 8th. Go to ArttoRemember.com to order today! Contact Mrs. Chmelo with any questions. Thank you for supporting the arts at East Clayton!
Don't forget that there is no school on Tuesday due to Election Day.
See you tomorrow, Explorers!

Happy Friday, Explorer Families! This is Mrs. Sabo with some updates for our busy week ahead.
On Monday, our school will begin our Red Ribbon Spirit Week. Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign held annually in October in the United States to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and violence prevention, where people wear red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. Please view the attached flyer to see how we will celebrate each day.
Also on Monday, our grades 3-5 students will take their MVP assessments for Reading for the 1st quarter. These tests are aligned to the EOG, and let us know how well students are mastering the grade level standards for the year. On Wednesday, students will take the MVP for Math. Please be sure students are on-time for these tests as we will begin first thing in the morning. Teachers will communicate these results with you when we receive them.
On Tuesday, students will bring home their 1st quarter report cards. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please schedule a conference with the teacher.
On Thursday, students in K-1 will participate in a costume parade at 9:15am. Students in grades 2-5 will follow the Red Ribbon Week theme, “dress like what you want to be when you grow up!” Please be sure all costumes are school appropriate.
On Friday, we will host our first Explorer Experience for the year. East Clayton’s school culture is grounded in a team approach called, “The Explorer Experience.” Teams gather monthly at The Explorer Experience assemblies to celebrate the hard work academically, socially, and emotionally. For this event, we will highlight students for September who showed self-discipline, and for October who showed responsibility. These traits follow our STRONG model for school-wide expectations.
Your child’s teacher should reach out to you if your child is getting an award, and we would love for you to attend. Just a warning though, sometimes we get loud with excitement! Students all received their team Explorer Experience shirt, courtesy of the PTA, and should wear this shirt on Friday.
We can’t wait to celebrate a fun week. Have a wonderful weekend!

JCPS continues to improve its school performance grades! 🌟
We are proud to announce that 89% of our schools received a school letter grade of A, B, or C according to recent data, surpassing the state average of 66%. This is a tremendous increase since 2018, when 65% of our schools were identified as the same.
Through dedication and hard work, three schools moved from a letter grade of C to B, and four schools moved from D to C! 👏

Save the date for October 17th!

Happy Friday, Explorer families! This is your Principal, Lauren Sabo with some updates for the week.
Mark your calendars for October 17th for the Enhancement Team's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Come out to enjoy a night of festivities with your family and meet the new members of our Enhancement Team.
On Monday, our 3rd graders will finish their CogAt testing. The rest of the week all of our classes will continue to focus on their curriculum and learning. Our students did a fantastic job transitioning to their AIR groups this week, and I am so proud of their hard work and focused behavior.
Our teachers and students are working hard toward their goals; for those of you who came to our AVID night, you were able to set some goals with your child. Our school has a goal this year of increased academics and improved behavior, and teachers and students have individual goals to help us reach them. Now, we have a goal for families:
Did you know that during the month of September, we had 358 student tardies? That works out to be about 18-19 students per day who are late to school. Our instructional day begins at 8:55am, and teachers jump right into learning at 9am. We need all students here in classrooms at that time.
Did you know that during the month of September, we had 446 early student check-outs? That works out to be about 23-24 students per day who are leaving early from school. Our instructional day ends at 3:55pm, and academics continue until that time. For even our youngest learners, we have Reading groups at the end of the day this year. If your student leaves early, they miss important instruction which is necessary time for us to be sure your child exceeds their growth this year.
As a goal for the month of October, we are going to try to decrease each of those numbers by 10%. That means we will decrease our tardies by 36, and our early check-outs by 45. Set those alarms in the mornings to get to school on time, and don't check-out your child early unless it's absolutely necessary. We appreciate your partnership as we all work together to Build STRONG Explorers this year!
Have a great weekend!

JCPS communities came together in an extraordinary way for our neighbors in Western North Carolina! 🌟
Donations from our schools for the Hurricane Helene Relief filled three dump trailers, three 3 box trucks, two pickup trucks, and two vans! This outpouring of kindness, compassion, and generosity is what our school system is built upon. We thank everyone involved in this effort!
We continue to keep everyone affected by this devastating event in our hearts! ❤

Thousands of supplies. Hundreds of donors. One common goal…helping those in their time of need. ❤
Today our Facility Services team gathered supplies from our schools, which were Hurricane Helene Relief donation sites. In a few hours, these supplies will be transported to Western North Carolina.
Thank you to the many, many students, parents, and staff who have responded promptly and compassionately.
Also, a special thanks to Johnston County Government and the Johnston County Sheriff's Office for allowing us to partner with you in this effort. 🤝
