Based on the current weather forecast, Johnston County Public Schools will continue normal operations on Monday, September 16, 2024. However, all after-school and evening campus activities and events have been canceled due to the forecast.
We understand that this decision will inconvenience many after-school events, however, student and staff safety is our primary concern.
It is our district’s goal to make our school communities as prepared as possible for emergency situations, including inclement weather. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution, per the guidance of local and state emergency service officials.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this storm event. We encourage everyone to follow the guidance of local weather officials, and have a safe evening!

All students have access to read aloud for Math/Science test this year and will need over the head headphones or wired earbuds (no bluetooth). If your student has not brought these to school, please secure a pair for their testing this week. If you have any questions, please contact the teacher.

Good evening, Explorer Families! We have had a wonderful 1st week of school. Students are learning processes and procedures, and classes are already learning! Here's a look at the week ahead!
On Monday, a reminder that there is no school in observance of Labor Day. We hope you enjoy the long weekend.
Students in grades K-3 will begin their Fall mClass testing this week and all of our students will also take their MAP tests for ELA or Math. The data collected from these tests is used to organize students for AIR time intervention and enrichment.
On Thursday, our 3rd graders will take the Beginning of Grade (BOG) test which is their first round of EOG testing for the year. The results of these tests will be communicated with you at the Progress Reports later in the month.
A couple of reminders as we move through the year. First, be sure to check out the breakfast and lunch menus each week at tinyurl.com/JCPSMenus. Breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year; students are able to stop on their way to their classroom in the mornings to grab a breakfast. Lines will get shorter as students get used to the process of inputting their numbers into the system.
Thank you for all of your patience with transportation. During carpool, we ask that no individuals leave their cars to buckle or open doors. We will load all students onto the passenger side for the most safety. If your student is unable to buckle themselves, please park the car after pickup to get them situated so that we do not hold up the carpool line.
As always, processes will get quicker over time if we all work together. We look forward to another wonderful week ahead with our full school in the building each day! See you all on Tuesday!

Good evening! Did you know that East Clayton is an AVID Elementary School? We support AVID's mission by creating an environment of college and career readiness for all students. Tomorrow we will celebrate national AVID day! We ask that students wear their favorite college tees or clothing to make their future goals visible! Students are welcome to wear hats if the hats are college themed! Please visit the site to learn more about AVID Day and our #AVIDImpact!

Good evening, Kindergarten families! This is your Principal, Lauren Sabo, with a reminder about Open House tomorrow night. We will open doors for entry at 5pm, and classroom sessions will begin soon after. Teachers will be sharing lots of information with you about the classrooms and school procedures. If you are unsure of your child's teacher, please come to the school and we can help you. From 6pm-6:30pm, we will host a family session in the cafeteria with administrators. We will be discussing ways to be involved in the school community. We can't wait to see you tomorrow night!
