Happy Friday, Explorer Families! This is Mrs. Sabo sharing some updates for the coming week! Next week we will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week. Our counselor, Ms. McBroom, has put together some fun activities and spirit days for our students, so please view the flyer in your child's folder or on our social media for more information about each day. Next week is also, "Love the Bus Week!" We are so thankful for our bus drivers who get our students to and from school safely each day. Be sure your child shows them the LOVE! Also, we have some dates to add to your calendars that you won't want to miss. On February 20th, we will host our Kindergarten through 2nd grade awards ceremonies for the middle of the year. Your child's teacher will share more information about awards that your child may receive, and we hope you will attend. On February 21st, we will host the Golden Ticket Ceremonies for the middle of the year for our grades 3 through 5 students. These ceremonies are so popular with our students, so look for more information from your child's teacher if you would like to attend. On February 27th, we will host our student-led conferences and Black History Month celebration for all of our families. From 5pm-6pm, student-led conferences will be held in the classrooms. From 6pm-7pm, we will have various activities, food, and a Black History Month program in the cafeteria. Our students have been working hard with the Enhancement Team to plan a great event for you. We hope you mark your calendars to stay with us for the full evening of events. Have a wonderful weekend!

Due to the hazardous road conditions caused by the recent winter weather event, Johnston County Public Schools will be closed for all students tomorrow, Friday, January 24, 2025, as well as all extracurricular activities. The district will operate under Condition 3 of the inclement weather plan. For JCPS staff, this day will become an optional teacher workday. Schools and county offices will open at 10 AM. As always, safety is our primary concern and after driving our roadways and receiving guidance from local safety officials and NCDOT, we have been advised that though the main roads within high-traffic areas may be clear, many secondary roads within the rural areas of the county are expected to still have hazardous conditions through Friday, making them unsafe for JCPS transportation use. In addition, many of our campuses have shaded walkways, parking lots, and areas that must continue to be assessed by our operational staff before students may safely return. Extracurricular activities and community facility use will resume on Saturday morning, however, we still encourage site visitors to travel safely and be cautious while on campus, particularly in shaded areas. Have a great weekend everyone and make the most of what is left of the snow!

Happy New Year, Explorer families! We are so excited to welcome students back to school on Monday. For students in grades 3-5, we will be collecting information through Panorama surveys. Their responses give us information about their experiences at school and how we can improve and adapt to their needs. In order to participate in the survey, students need parent permission. Please click the link found in the email or via text to let your child's teacher know if they can take the survey for us. Thanks for your help as we always strive to create a strong experience for our Explorers! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeMq5oEA356yq2c4LjLxnhWpDmCL-2qDfrjP03kAKmissQ6gQ/viewform See you all on Monday!

Good Afternoon, This is your principal Lauren Sabo contacting the parents of the riders of bus 173 regarding an incident that occurred during this morning’s commute. While at a bus stop during this morning’s commute, a parent of one of the riders accompanied their child while boarding the bus. During the process, while in conversation with the bus driver, the parent used profanity and addressed other students. While we know this is concerning, please know that no students or staff were hurt during the incident. The bus driver responded appropriately, taking the precautionary measures of contacting law enforcement to assist in the situation and to report the incident. Law enforcement is taking proper steps to handle the incident. Please know that we strive to ensure that you are informed of incidents like this and to assure you that Johnston County Public Schools is always committed to the safety and well-being of students and staff. Thank you and have a great evening!
