The 2023-2024 Cooper Academy yearbooks have arrived! For any students/families that submitted online orders your student's yearbook is being sent home with them this week. For any students/families still interested in purchasing a yearbook, please return an order form or send a note indicating the student name along with the teacher name with payment of $30 by cash or check made payable to "Cooper Academy". Currently, we have approximately 50 yearbooks available for sale in the main office.

Greetings Cooper Academy families! Just a quick reminder to join our PTA & One Compassion for a community event tomorrow night (4/18/24) from 5:00-7:00 pm. I hope you're hungry because we are serving a free pancake, egg, bacon, and sausage dinner for our families. Please use the informational flyer that was sent home with students to RSVP to help us know how much food to prepare. The PTA Board will also be hosting a floating information meeting and voting on new PTA Board Members for the 2024-2025 school year. In addition, the Book Fair will have extended hours from 5:00-7:00 pm. We can't wait to spend some time with everyone enjoying some great food and fellowship at the school! JCPS is looking for Reading Buddy volunteers to help our students this summer! We need parents, grandparents, community members, and high school students to join our Summer Reading Camp participants during morning arrival. Volunteers will listen to and encourage students as they develop their reading skills. No experience is required, but you will need to register and be a volunteer with JCPS before you begin. Good evening Cooper Academy families! We wanted to share some information and reminders about some upcoming events. Report cards for the third quarter will be sent home with students on April 15th. Please make sure to review the report card with your student, sign & date the report card envelope, and return the report card envelope to your child’s teacher. Just a reminder to please make sure our students are following the Cooper Academy uniform policy with royal blue tops and khaki, gray or black pants/shorts/shirts. We have started to contact families to bring a change of clothing for any students not following our uniform policy. The Spring Book Fair is April 15th-19th. The PTA and One Compassion are hosting a pancake dinner night on Thursday, April 18th at 5:00 pm. The book fair will be open late on this night to attend with your student. This is just a reminder that JCPS and Participate Learning are hosting a "Dual Language Information for Middle School" Parent Night for our current 5th grade families on Thursday, April 11th at 5:30 pm in Mrs. Solorzano's classroom. The chance to pie Mr. Stoke in the face must be a motivator for our students because they are doing a tremendous job documenting their minutes of reading and bringing in their reading logs to share with their teachers. So far, our students have read 97,022 minutes read in the month of March. Spring Break starts on Friday, March 29th and ends on Friday, April 5th. JCPS has a teacher workday on Monday, April 8th. Classes are continuing to earn their reading badges and eager to earn the chance to pie Mr. Stoke in the face. Keep having students document their nightly minutes read and bring in their reading logs to share with their teachers. So far, the following classes have already eclipsed three thousand minutes read…Ms. Valdes, Ms. Jaramillo, Mrs. Bolen, and Mrs. Solorzano’s classes. We’ve had a few classes read over four thousand minutes with Mrs. Fish, Mr. Beltran and Mrs. Graham’s classes. Finally, we have one class that is in the lead with 5175 minutes read…Mrs. Thompson’s homeroom. Each homeroom is challenged to read 10,000 minutes during the month of March prior to Spring Break! All classes that reach their goal of 10,000 minutes read will earn an ice cream party and be eligible for the drawing to receive free books from our Spring Book Fair on April 15th-19th. The homeroom class with the most minutes read will have a lucky student selected to pie Mr. Stoke in the face in front of the entire school. Spring Picture Day is Friday, March 22nd. Students do not need to wear uniforms on picture day. Families will receive picture packets after spring break to review prior to submitting picture orders. The 5th Grade Student vs Staff Basketball Game is Friday, March 22nd from 6:00-7:30 pm. Parents must attend the game with their child. Don’t forget to register your students for the Parent Night Out Event on Friday, March 1st. Students will enjoy a movie, dinner, and activities from 6:00-9:00 pm. The cost for this event is $20 to register and $5 for each additional student. Students must be registered by Wednesday, February 28th using the informational flyer QR code to participate. We are “March”ing into a new month with our school-wide reading challenge starting on Friday, March 1st. Each homeroom is challenged to read 10,000 minutes during the month of March prior to Spring Break! Classes will earn camping/hiking themed badges to post in their rooms created by our PTA for every 500 minutes read. All classes that reach their goal of 10,000 minutes read will earn an ice cream party and be eligible for the drawing to receive free books from our Spring Book Fair on April 15th-19th. If we meet our school-wide goal of reading 200,000 minutes, a lucky student will be selected to pie Mr. Stoke in the face in front of the entire school. Last night, JCPS celebrated the 2024 Leading with the Heart recipients!💝 The event, inspired by Mike Krzyzewski’s book, “Leading with the Heart,” recognizes those staff members throughout the school system that demonstrate leadership, compassion, and heart on a daily basis. One person from every school as well as central services was nominated by their peers, because of their unwavering commitment and dedication to their role. Our 4th grade students and staff had a terrific time today attending the North Carolina Symphony performance! They also had time this afternoon to make connections to their learning in the classroom while visiting the NC Museum of History and Museum of Natural Sciences. A huge thank you to Mrs. Bogardus, the 4th grade team, our bus drivers, and Dr. Leonhardt for facilitating this experience for our students!

Monday, February 19th is a JCPS Teacher Workday. There is no school for students. We’re kicking off our school-wide Read-a-Thon next week with students and staff. On Friday, March 1st we are celebrating National Read Across America Day.
