Great job Cooper Academy families! In just two days our school is at 38% participation for our Book Blast Event and has raised over $8,000 in books for our students! Congratulations to Ms. Jaramillo's class for leading the way with 61% participation which earned their class a $100 shopping spree for books in the classroom.
Please make sure to send out your 10 or more invitations so the students can earn their prizes and get free books and our homeroom teachers can receive free books for their classrooms. We had our first Treasure Box winner announced today and will continue to award 3 additional Treasure Boxes over the next few school days along with the grand prize drawing for the iPad next week.
Did you know that Cooper Academy students "Exceeded Growth" expectations in reading last school year on their End-of-Grade testing and have increased their reading test scores by 12.4% the past few years? It takes great teachers, terrific students/parents and community support to make this happen. We want to get more books in the hands of our students and you can help.
Please share the link below with our local businesses, faith-based organizations, and civic groups that can help us by submitting donations towards books.
100% of all funds donated go towards purchasing books for our students!

Based on the current weather forecast, Johnston County Public Schools will continue normal operations on Monday, September 16, 2024. However, all after-school and evening campus activities and events have been canceled due to the forecast.
We understand that this decision will inconvenience many after-school events, however, student and staff safety is our primary concern.
It is our district’s goal to make our school communities as prepared as possible for emergency situations, including inclement weather. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution, per the guidance of local and state emergency service officials.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this storm event. We encourage everyone to follow the guidance of local weather officials, and have a safe evening!

Cooper Academy Families! This is Mr. Stoke, Principal of Cooper Academy. A huge thank you to our entire Cooper Academy School Community for helping us achieve tremendous growth and success with our students. It takes all of us to support our students in reaching their potential. Official testing results were just released by NCDPI and Cooper Academy Exceeded Student Growth targets again in 2023-2024! Our student growth index rated our school in the top 27% of all schools in North Carolina! Let’s keep it going in 2024-2025! One of the most important ways you can help your child succeed is by having them read or parents/guardians/siblings reading with them everyday for at least 15 to 30 minutes. This is vital to the literacy development of all students.
On September 17th we will be having our “Books are Fun - Book Blast” kick-off trying to raise funds for every student to earn at least three books to add to their home library collection. Books are Fun Book Blast Treasure Maps (info. flyers) will be sent home with all students on Tuesday, September 17th. Please take 7 minutes on that night to register your child and enter into the student prize drawings for the treasure boxes and the ipad giveaway!
We are hosting an Open House / Title I Parent Night on September 26th from 6:00-7:30 pm. In addition, families with students having any intervention or AIG plans will review these at the Open House.
Monday, September 23rd is our Fall Picture Day for students. Picture order forms will be posted online and sent home with students in the coming weeks.
Friday, September 27th is an early dismissal day for our school system. We will dismiss students at 1:55 pm.
Monday, September 30th is the last day for kindergarten or newly enrolled students to submit Immunization records and health assessment (for kindergarten only) before they can no longer attend school without them. Contact the school nurse Sara Buchanan if you have any questions or need assistance.

Cooper Academy Families! This is Mr. Stoke, Principal of Cooper Academy. Thank you for helping us get off to a terrific start to the school year. All of our students and staff have done a terrific job!
Here is some information and reminders about upcoming events.
For afternoon carpool we ask that all vehicles keep their carpool numbers clearly displayed and line up on Mial Street.
As indicated in our student/parent handbook no food from outside restaurants/vendors is permitted in our cafeteria for students due to guidelines; schools can be fined if found during an inspection/audit. Special birthday cupcakes or treats for students should be coordinated with the teacher to be given in the classroom at an agreed upon time, not in the cafeteria.
Students will be engaged with beginning of year benchmark assessments for mClass Reading, MAP Reading & Math and the EOG Reading for grade 3 students over the next few weeks. We will share the results of these assessments at our Open House / Title I Parent Night on September 26th from 6:00-7:30 pm. In addition, families with students having any intervention or AIG plans will review these at the Open House.
The Boy Scouts are hosting a Parent/Student Information Night in our media center on September 4th from 6:30-7:30 pm. If you are attending this event please park in the staff parking lot and enter the school door directly beside the media center.
Auditions for our Cooper Academy Chorus Performance Group is September 10th from 4:15-5:30 pm with our music teacher, Thomas Honicker. Students must have a signed parent permission form to stay after school for auditions. Forms were sent home with students.
On September 17th we will be having our “Books are Fun - Book Blast” kick-off trying to raise funds for every student to earn at least three books to add to their home library collection. Be on the lookout next week for the informational fliers.

Finally, we have an attendance reminder. If your child is absent please send a written note from the parent/guardian or doctor with the child's first/last name, reason for absence(s), date of absence(s), and teacher's name on the day he or she returns to school. Medical notes should be provided if your child went to the doctor. No note will result in an unexcused absence. After a student accumulates 3 unexcused absences or more NC State Truancy Law requires the school to send home attendance letters to families.
Thank you for your support!

Good afternoon Cooper Academy Families,
We look forward to seeing our grades students and families for orientation on Thursday, August 22nd. Kindergarten families have appointments in the morning while our grades 1-5 families have orientation/meet the teacher from 3:30-6:30 pm (floating). The orientation materials in your child’s classroom should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Thank you for making sure your child’s teacher has updated contact information for parents and emergency contacts. In addition, please provide any medical concerns including allergies or dietary restrictions. It is critical that all parents share how their child is to be transported home each afternoon at dismissal (bus rider, car rider, daycare van, after school care program or a front/backwalker). The first day of school for students in grades 1-5 is Monday, August 26th.
The bus assignment information for students already registered to ride the school bus will be provided by your child’s homeroom teacher. If you need to register your child for bus transportation please stop by the media center tomorrow during orientation.
Our PTA's "Fill the Bin" initiative has been a tremendous success! Families that no longer needed school uniform clothing or their children grew out of clothing returned these items to the school for other families to access. A HUGE thanks to Victoria Robb, our PTA President, for coordinating this massive initiative! We have quite a few items available. Stop by the school anytime between 8am-4pm or during orientation to pick out free, gently used school uniform clothing options for your students.
If your child is assigned a classroom in our 200 hallway please park along Mial Street and the front of our campus to enter the school at our main entrance. If your child is assigned a classroom in our 300 or 400 hallway please park in the parking lot on the front side of campus beside the media center, so you can enter through our security system at the media center main entrance. All families will be required to enter the school through our security entry points.
Please be aware that Mial Street near the round-a-bout may be closed due to construction work. Our campus is an active construction site with the new addition and renovation projects. Please make sure to remain in the designated areas away from the construction zones. No families should park in the back parking lot next to the Rocket Playground or behind the cafeteria as these areas are closed off for construction personnel only at this time.
We’re looking forward to a terrific school year! Thank you for your support!
