The Johnston County Board of Education believes that parent and family involvement is a key component in achieving academic success. Therefore, the Board is committed to developing policies to effectively involve parents in schools and in their child’s education. N.C.G.S. § 115C-76.20(b)(3).

Our district supports the efforts of parents/guardians make to be responsible and involved in the lives of their students, whether at home of at school; therefore, the Board commits to providing support and coordination for school staff and parents to implement and sustain appropriate parent involvement.

Improved student achievement, academic success, and health must be the equally shared responsibility and ultimate goal of parents, teachers, and the school system as a whole.

The Board is committed to ensuring that student achievement is impacted significantly by improving the quality and frequency of parent/family involvement. Likewise, the Board commits to continued efforts to provide guidance, support, cooperation, and the necessary funding resources to enable parents to become active partners in education.

Parent Legal Rights for their Child's Education

  1. The right to consent or withhold consent for participation in reproductive health and safety education programs, consistent with the requirements of G.S. 115C-81.30. (Policy Code: 3540 Healthful Living

  5. The right to inspect and purchase public school unit textbooks and other supplementary instructional materials, as provided in Part 3 of Article 8 of this Chapter.   6. The right to access information relating to the unit's policies for promotion or retention, including high school graduation requirements.   7. The right to receive student report cards on a regular basis that clearly depict and grade the student's academic performance in each class or course, the student's conduct, and the student's attendance. (Policy Code: 3400 Evaluation of Student Progress)
