I wanted to make sure that all of your remember that we have our annual Trunk or Treat tomorrow night, Friday, October 24th from 6pm to 8pm here at our campus. This is a free event, but we will also have some concession items and activities for sale as well. This was a huge event last year and we hope to see all of you again tomorrow evening.
I also want to let you know that students will not be allowed to wear costumes to school next Friday, October 31st. We do have some activities going on that day and we unfortunately had some issues with certain costumes last year, so we are asking that students hold off on wearing costumes until they get home for Halloween. Thank you for understanding!
I hope all of you have a wonderful evening!
I wanted to remind all of you that we are hosting a PTA general meeting tomorrow evening at 6pm in our library. This is a meeting for parents that are members of our PTA or interested in being a part of our PTA. We will be reviewing the budget, priorities for this school year, events and plans for this school year. I will also be going over the state of our school and our progress over the years, and our goals for this school year. I will also address the grading changes for this year as well in this meeting.
I also wanted to remind everyone that students do not have school next Monday, October 20th- it is a teacher workday.
And finally, please come out and join us for our Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 24th from 6pm to 8pm. This was an amazing event last year and we are excited to do it again this year. There is no admission cost to go for the trunk or treat, but we will have concessions for sale and other activities, such as a hayride, that will have a cost. Please come out for a fun time as a school family!
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful evening!
Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. Our fall picture make-up day is tomorrow, October 10th. If your child did not get their fall picture taken on September 12th or you have a child that is new to our school since September 12th, Lifetouch Pictures will be here tomorrow to take their picture. These pictures will be in our yearbook for this school year. I hope all of you have a wonderful evening!
I wanted to let you all know that we have a TES Spirit Night at the Smithfield Chicken and Barbeque location at Flower's Plantation this Thursday, October 9th from 4pm to 8pm. Please say that you are with TES and a percentage of the sales will come back to our school.
Our PTA is also hosting a General Meeting on Thursday, October 16th at 6pm. You will be able to hear information on our PTA budget, priorities for this school year, opportunities to get involved, and more. Please come out and learn how to partner with us as we continue to make TES a great school.
Finally, I wanted to make you aware of our next teacher workday. This will be on Monday, October 20th- students will not have school that day.
Thank you for your time and I hope you all have a wonderful evening!
I wanted to remind everyone that students do not have school tomorrow, Friday, September 26th. It is a teacher workday.
We have one week left in our Candyman Fall Fundraiser. We are hoping to meet our goal this year- as a reminder the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards providing educational programs for our school such as Lexia and MathFactLab; programs we have seen help our students make tremendous growth in reading and math. In person sales are to be turned in before September 29th and online sales will run through October 2nd.
Also, our first school spirit day is coming up next Friday, October 3rd. We would love for all of our staff and students to wear their TES gear- either school shirts or school colors (orange and maroon). We will have spirit sticks, croc charms, and stickers for sale during morning arrival- spirit sticks are $1; stickers are two for $1; and croc charms are $3.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful evening!
Tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 23rd, is our annual Curriculum Night from 6pm to 7pm. The teachers will be going over the different curriculums we are using this school year with your child; the different assessments that your child will be taking throughout the school year; and the updated grading policy so you know how to interpret the report cards throughout the year. Please come out and join us!
I also wanted to remind everyone that this Friday, September 26th is a teacher workday- students do not have school this Friday.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great evening!
I wanted to remind all of our families that our annual Curriculum Night is next Tuesday, September 23rd from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. This is where you will meet with your child's teacher and they will make sure you understand the curriculum that we are using this year, the different assessments your child will take this year, and the grading system that will be implemented. We do have a new grading system this year and the rest of the information is very important for you to know, so this will be a good event to attend.
I would also like to make sure that all of you know that our 1st quarter progress reports will be going home next Thursday, September 25th with the students. For this progress report we will be just sending home your child's beginning of the year benchmark assessment data.
Our students will not have school next Friday, September 26th- this is a teacher workday.
And finally, our afternoon carpool is going a little faster. The students have been able to get into a routine. To help us go even faster and to help us move cars off of Lynch Road as fast as possible, please help your child know what car will be picking them up; and if they are not able to buckle themselves, please slowly pull over to our parking lot so you can exit the vehicle and buckle them in. Please don't get out of your car in our carpool lane to buckle- this is not safe for you and it slows the moving of our line. Again, please pull over to our parking lot to buckle your child.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful evening!
I wanted to let all of your know that our Fall Picture Day is this Friday, September 12th. All of our students and staff will have their picture taken; and this picture will be in our yearbook for this year.
We are on our last week of sales for our VIP carpool raffle. We will have winners for AM carpool, PM carpool, and for both. You can still purchase raffle tickets through this Sunday by visiting the TES PTA Facebook page.
Also you should have received your packet for the CandyMan Fundraiser. This is our fall fundraiser and it started last Friday and runs through September 29th. Online sales will run through October 2nd. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards educational programs for our students.
And finally, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 23rd at 6pm. This is our annual curriculum night and this is a great event to attend for you to understand the different curriculums we use throughout the year, and to help you understand how your student will be graded (that has been adjusted for the 2025-2026 school year)
It was great visiting South Johnston High, Meadow School, Innovation Academy, Selma Elementary, East Clayton Elementary, and West View Elementary today as we recognize them each as a school moving forward!
These schools received this acknowledgment for their outstanding performance in the 2024-2025 school year!

JCPS continues to shine! 🌟
We are excited to announce that Johnston County Public Schools has continued its journey to becoming one of the best districts in the state, according to 2024-2025 data recently released by NCDPI.
A few of the district highlights included a significant increase in student proficiency scores and school performance grades, with 93% of our schools having a school letter grade of A, B, or C! 75% of our schools met or exceeded growth, which is well above the state average.
Amazingly, 15 of our schools rank in the top 20% statewide, with seven schools in the top 10% for growth! Graduation rates for JCPS schools continue to rise, with JCPS reaching 92.5%, which is significantly higher than the state average of 87.7%
A huge thank you to our incredible educators, hardworking students, and supportive families for helping drive this success forward! 📈

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
It is hard to believe that we are about to finish our 2nd week of school. I would like to thank everyone for helping make the start of this school year as smooth as possible.
If you have noticed a line of cars in the parking lot in the morning and the afternoon, that is where our VIP carpool raffle winners will be able to drop off students in the morning and pick up your students in the afternoon. You can still purchase the VIP carpool raffle tickets via our Thanksgiving Elementary School PTA Facebook page. Raffle tickets will be on sale through next Sunday, September 14th.
Our PTA is also sponsoring our fall fundraiser that will start tomorrow, September 5th and run until Monday, September 29th. This will be an online store for gift wrapping paper, kitchen items, and delicious sweets. There are prizes for students as they move up levels. More details will be coming home in your child's Friday Folder tomorrow on how to register online and make it easy.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful evening!
I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day Holiday. I am excited to start our second week of school this week.
With so many cars in carpool to start this year, we trying to get everyone off of Lynch Rd. as much as possible. Parents, please move as close as you can to the car in front of you on our two-lane carpool drive. We have two great volunteers that have been helping get cars as close as possible to pull more cars off of the road. Also, to avoid any collisions or accidents, if you are able to go right on Lynch Rd. in the afternoon after you pick up your child in carpool, that will be a lot safer. You may have to do a loop to get home, but that will help ensure we don't have cars passing our line of cars on the left and possibly into oncoming traffic- it is hard to see cars coming down Lynch Rd. from Jordan-Narron Rd. with the hill; and we have had several close calls.
I hope all of you have a great evening and I look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow morning!
We have had a great first week of school. The arrival and dismissal procedures have been the best that I can remember. Tomorrow is the first day that we will have all of our kindergarten and all of our students on campus. Kindergarten parents, please join us for the Boo-Hoo/Yahoo breakfast sponsored by our PTA at 9:00am in our cafeteria after you walk your child to their classroom.
To help our carpool run smoother in the afternoon, please have your carpool tags visible on the driver's side of the car. This will help our volunteers and Mrs. Parrella see the numbers clearly. Also, please pull up as close as you can to the car in front of you in the carpool line. This will help us get as many cars off of Lynch Rd. as possible. Make sure your child can recognize their car and if they are not able to buckle themselves independently (please practice with them) you can slowly drive up and park in our parking lot to buckle your child so we can continue to move our carpool lines.
Please be patient tomorrow afternoon with buses and carpool, while we get all of our kindergarteners familiar with the process. Have a great evening!
Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
Well, it's here! Tomorrow is the first day of school for our 1st through 5th grade students. The bell for students to start going to their classrooms will ring at 8:30am. Parents of our 1st through 5th students can walk students to class tomorrow, but only tomorrow. Parents, if you are picking up your child in carpool tomorrow afternoon, please make sure you have this year's carpool tag in your car. If you do not have this year's carpool tag, we will ask you to park and go inside to present ID. Our carpool will start at 3:55pm. Also, please allow for time for buses in the morning and in the afternoon. I would get to your bus stop early and be prepared if they are running behind. Same thing in the afternoon, with students having to scan their new cards when boarding the bus, this will take some time to get into a routine. Also, we will be attaching a bus card to each students' bookbag tomorrow. Please help us make sure those stay attached to the bookbag so students don't lose their card.
And finally, our Kindergarten Open House is tomorrow evening (Monday, August 25th) at 6:30pm. We will start in the cafeteria and then you will be able to visit your child's teacher and classroom.
I can't wait to see everyone back tomorrow! Have a great evening!
I am looking forward to seeing our 1st through 5th grade students at our Open House tomorrow and our kindergarten parents at our Kindergarten Orientation on Monday.
I wanted to make sure all of our families know what days they can walk in students. 1st through 5th grade parents can walk students to to class on Monday, August 25th only. We just don't have enough parking to do that more than one day. Kindergarten parents can walk their child to class on the orientation day (the day where we only have half of the class) and their first official day of school- Friday, August 29th. After these days we will only allow students to enter the building at arrival unless you have a meeting or volunteering.
Kindergarten parents, please join us for our annual Boo-Hoo/Yahoo Breakfast in our cafeteria after walking your child to their classroom. We will have treats and coffee, and this is a great way to meet some other families.
Parents, please be patient with us with carpool and buses these first few weeks. It takes a few days for students to learn the process and to get into a routine. Also, students will have bus cards to swipe on and off the bus this year. We will be attaching them to your child's bookbag on their first day of school. Please help them make sure it stays attached to their bookbag. I lost card will cost $5 to replace.
Finally, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 23rd from 6pm to 7pm. This is our annual Curriculum Night, and it will be especially important to attend so we can go through our new grading policies for the 2025-2026 school year.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great evening!
Our 1st through 5th Grade Open House is this Thursday, August 21st. Students with last names starting with the letter A through L will attend from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Students with last names starting with the letter M through Z will attend from 6pm to 7pm. You should have received a postcard in the mail with your child's teacher and room number. Parking will be very limited, so we will allow you to park in our two lane carpool lane in the right hand lane, we do need to keep the left lane free in case of emergency. You can also park in any grass areas at the back of the parking lot and beside the bus/parking lot entrance.
Our Kindergarten Orientation is on Monday, August 25th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This is an event for parents only with the amount of information that will be shared and to be filled out, but if you do not have any available child care, you can bring them, but they will stay with you.
For our Before and After School Care Program, families can register at Open House. The cost is $140 per student, per month, per program. The registration fee is $10 to register for one program and $15 for both. August is prorated at $33 per program and December is prorated $98 per program. Online payments will not be available during Open House, you must pay the registration fee, August and September payment via cash (exact), check, or money order at Open House to reserve a spot. We will have representatives for our Before and After School Care program in the cafeteria at our Open House.
It's hard to believe the new school year is here! Have a great evening!

Johnston County Public Schools is committed to providing quality education to its students and professional learning environments for its staff, free of distractions, and supporting high-quality teaching and learning, enhancing student well-being, and maintaining a safe and focused school environment.
Recent studies indicate that cell phone use, particularly for social media and interaction, can interfere with students' ability to focus on learning and negatively impact students in many ways. Excessive use of cell phones and social media has been linked to lower academic performance, increased behavioral issues, and other conditions that hinder students' ability to excel.
In recent legislation, House Bill 959, Session Law 2025-38, revisions were made addressing clear guidelines for the use of cell phones to include educational purposes. The Johnston County Board of Education has adopted Policy Code: 4318 Use of Wireless Communication Devices.
Families are strongly encouraged to review the policy in its entirety.
