Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
It is hard to believe that we are about to finish our 2nd week of school. I would like to thank everyone for helping make the start of this school year as smooth as possible.
If you have noticed a line of cars in the parking lot in the morning and the afternoon, that is where our VIP carpool raffle winners will be able to drop off students in the morning and pick up your students in the afternoon. You can still purchase the VIP carpool raffle tickets via our Thanksgiving Elementary School PTA Facebook page. Raffle tickets will be on sale through next Sunday, September 14th.
Our PTA is also sponsoring our fall fundraiser that will start tomorrow, September 5th and run until Monday, September 29th. This will be an online store for gift wrapping paper, kitchen items, and delicious sweets. There are prizes for students as they move up levels. More details will be coming home in your child's Friday Folder tomorrow on how to register online and make it easy.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day Holiday. I am excited to start our second week of school this week.
With so many cars in carpool to start this year, we trying to get everyone off of Lynch Rd. as much as possible. Parents, please move as close as you can to the car in front of you on our two-lane carpool drive. We have two great volunteers that have been helping get cars as close as possible to pull more cars off of the road. Also, to avoid any collisions or accidents, if you are able to go right on Lynch Rd. in the afternoon after you pick up your child in carpool, that will be a lot safer. You may have to do a loop to get home, but that will help ensure we don't have cars passing our line of cars on the left and possibly into oncoming traffic- it is hard to see cars coming down Lynch Rd. from Jordan-Narron Rd. with the hill; and we have had several close calls.
I hope all of you have a great evening and I look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow morning!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
We have had a great first week of school. The arrival and dismissal procedures have been the best that I can remember. Tomorrow is the first day that we will have all of our kindergarten and all of our students on campus. Kindergarten parents, please join us for the Boo-Hoo/Yahoo breakfast sponsored by our PTA at 9:00am in our cafeteria after you walk your child to their classroom.
To help our carpool run smoother in the afternoon, please have your carpool tags visible on the driver's side of the car. This will help our volunteers and Mrs. Parrella see the numbers clearly. Also, please pull up as close as you can to the car in front of you in the carpool line. This will help us get as many cars off of Lynch Rd. as possible. Make sure your child can recognize their car and if they are not able to buckle themselves independently (please practice with them) you can slowly drive up and park in our parking lot to buckle your child so we can continue to move our carpool lines.
Please be patient tomorrow afternoon with buses and carpool, while we get all of our kindergarteners familiar with the process. Have a great evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
Well, it's here! Tomorrow is the first day of school for our 1st through 5th grade students. The bell for students to start going to their classrooms will ring at 8:30am. Parents of our 1st through 5th students can walk students to class tomorrow, but only tomorrow. Parents, if you are picking up your child in carpool tomorrow afternoon, please make sure you have this year's carpool tag in your car. If you do not have this year's carpool tag, we will ask you to park and go inside to present ID. Our carpool will start at 3:55pm. Also, please allow for time for buses in the morning and in the afternoon. I would get to your bus stop early and be prepared if they are running behind. Same thing in the afternoon, with students having to scan their new cards when boarding the bus, this will take some time to get into a routine. Also, we will be attaching a bus card to each students' bookbag tomorrow. Please help us make sure those stay attached to the bookbag so students don't lose their card.
And finally, our Kindergarten Open House is tomorrow evening (Monday, August 25th) at 6:30pm. We will start in the cafeteria and then you will be able to visit your child's teacher and classroom.
I can't wait to see everyone back tomorrow! Have a great evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
I am looking forward to seeing our 1st through 5th grade students at our Open House tomorrow and our kindergarten parents at our Kindergarten Orientation on Monday.
I wanted to make sure all of our families know what days they can walk in students. 1st through 5th grade parents can walk students to to class on Monday, August 25th only. We just don't have enough parking to do that more than one day. Kindergarten parents can walk their child to class on the orientation day (the day where we only have half of the class) and their first official day of school- Friday, August 29th. After these days we will only allow students to enter the building at arrival unless you have a meeting or volunteering.
Kindergarten parents, please join us for our annual Boo-Hoo/Yahoo Breakfast in our cafeteria after walking your child to their classroom. We will have treats and coffee, and this is a great way to meet some other families.
Parents, please be patient with us with carpool and buses these first few weeks. It takes a few days for students to learn the process and to get into a routine. Also, students will have bus cards to swipe on and off the bus this year. We will be attaching them to your child's bookbag on their first day of school. Please help them make sure it stays attached to their bookbag. I lost card will cost $5 to replace.
Finally, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 23rd from 6pm to 7pm. This is our annual Curriculum Night, and it will be especially important to attend so we can go through our new grading policies for the 2025-2026 school year.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
Our 1st through 5th Grade Open House is this Thursday, August 21st. Students with last names starting with the letter A through L will attend from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Students with last names starting with the letter M through Z will attend from 6pm to 7pm. You should have received a postcard in the mail with your child's teacher and room number. Parking will be very limited, so we will allow you to park in our two lane carpool lane in the right hand lane, we do need to keep the left lane free in case of emergency. You can also park in any grass areas at the back of the parking lot and beside the bus/parking lot entrance.
Our Kindergarten Orientation is on Monday, August 25th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This is an event for parents only with the amount of information that will be shared and to be filled out, but if you do not have any available child care, you can bring them, but they will stay with you.
For our Before and After School Care Program, families can register at Open House. The cost is $140 per student, per month, per program. The registration fee is $10 to register for one program and $15 for both. August is prorated at $33 per program and December is prorated $98 per program. Online payments will not be available during Open House, you must pay the registration fee, August and September payment via cash (exact), check, or money order at Open House to reserve a spot. We will have representatives for our Before and After School Care program in the cafeteria at our Open House.
It's hard to believe the new school year is here! Have a great evening!

Johnston County Public Schools is committed to providing quality education to its students and professional learning environments for its staff, free of distractions, and supporting high-quality teaching and learning, enhancing student well-being, and maintaining a safe and focused school environment.

Recent studies indicate that cell phone use, particularly for social media and interaction, can interfere with students' ability to focus on learning and negatively impact students in many ways. Excessive use of cell phones and social media has been linked to lower academic performance, increased behavioral issues, and other conditions that hinder students' ability to excel.

In recent legislation, House Bill 959, Session Law 2025-38, revisions were made addressing clear guidelines for the use of cell phones to include educational purposes. The Johnston County Board of Education has adopted Policy Code: 4318 Use of Wireless Communication Devices.

Families are strongly encouraged to review the policy in its entirety.

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information as we are about to begin another school year.
Our district is not having a bus information day at Corinth Holders High School like they have in the past few years. So if you need to make sure your child has a bus for the first day of school (or soon after the first day), please click on this link and complete the form as soon as possible (preferably by August 8th). If you wait until the night of Open House there is no guarantee that your child will have a bus the first few weeks of school
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeDlhCNuahW9shUiMte5BfFl-pbPtTibLaI-YR4YLXBH6xZHQ/viewform
If you are not able to click on the link from the email, just copy and paste the link above into the browser and it should direct you to the form.
Also, if you have not already enrolled your rising kindergarten student into school before now, please do so as soon as possible. You can enroll by going to the JCPS website (www.johnston.k12.nc.us) and click on the Enrollment icon on the homepage. If you have any questions you can call 888-903-6765.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information.
I can not believe that we are just about a month away from our students returning to school for the 2025-2026 school year. I can't wait to see everyone! I wanted to share our Open House dates and times with all of you.
Our 1st Grade through 5th Grade Open House will take place on Thursday, August 21st. Students with last names starting with the letters A through L will attend from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Students with last names starting with the letters M through Z will attend from 6pm to 7pm. Parents you will receive a postcard in the mail by Monday, August 18th with the name of your child's teacher and their room number so you know where to go for Open House night.
Our Kindergarten Open House will be on Monday, August 25th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. We do ask that only parents attend due to the amount of paperwork to sign and information that will be shared, but if you do not have another option for child care you can bring your child with you. Kindergarten parents will be getting a phone call from your child's teacher introducing themselves by Friday, August 22nd.
I hope you all enjoy these last few weeks of summer and I am very excited to start the 2025-2026 school year with you all soon!

📢It has been reported that JCPS students have received more than 66.2 million in scholarship offerings for the 2024-2025 school year! This is an amazing 18 million more than scholarship offerings received during the 2023-2024 year!📢 A great deal of the offerings have been accepted and will cover tuition costs as these students continue their educational journeys! 💲JCPS is proud of the efforts that go into securing scholarship funding, and we celebrate the students, staff, and parents who work hard to make it happen! 💲 Great things are truly happening in JCPS!

North Carolina is home to a large population of active duty, guard, reserve, and veteran armed services members, and the state’s public schools reflect that. In 2019, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction launched the Purple Star Award Designation initiative to recognize the state’s strong military presence and support for military families. The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate military-friendly practices and a commitment to military students and families. JCPS had 17 schools receive the Purple Star Award Designation. They are as follows: Benson Middle Clayton High School Cleveland High School Corinth-Holders Elementary Corinth-Holders High Four Oaks Elementary Meadow School McGee's Crossroads Elementary Polenta Elementary Princeton Elementary Princeton Middle/High Smithfield-Selma High South Johnston High School South Smithfield Elementary Swift Creek Middle School West Johnston High School Thanksgiving Elementary We are proud of these designations and honored to recognize our military families in this way!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. Well, it is hard to believe that this is the last week of the 2024-2025 school year. I have a few brief announcements to help with these last few days. First, we still have about 195 books still checked out of our library. Mrs. Barber has sent home letters and Rooms messages. If your child has any books from our library please send it back tomorrow. If you have a book that was lost or damaged, please reach out to Mrs. Barber for the replacement cost. We have our 3rd Grade awards tomorrow at 10am and our 4th grade awards is at noon. These awards will take place in the classrooms. Please make sure you have your ID with you at check in. Our 5th Grade Awards are this Wednesday, May 21st at 9:30am. Please don't arrive at our front entrance until after our tardy bell at 8:55am- we need to make sure are carpool students are able to enter the building and get to class as quickly and safely as possible. Right now the weather is looking good for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade field day on Thursday- this is a make-up of our field day that was rained out the Friday before Spring Break. And finally, this Thursday, May 22nd is our last day of school. Our carpool and buses will be dismissed at 1:55pm; and we do not have after school care that day. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. Wow! Two days in a row we have had a severe storm right at our dismissal time. Thank you all so much for being patient with us as we held students inside to keep them safe! I wanted to thank all of our students, staff, and families for helping to make this year's testing days (Kindergarten through 5th) go as well as it did. I am so proud of everyone and your effort/support. We do have some EOG retests that will be taking place over the next few days. We are in need of 9 proctors for tomorrow- if you are able to help us out for 3 hours tomorrow morning, please come to the office at 8:30am. We greatly appreciate you! Our award ceremonies are starting tomorrow with our pre-k, kindergarten, and 1st grade classes. Please know parking is very limited. You can park on the grass areas and we will have some parking in our two-lane carpool lane as well. Please look for me or our volunteers and we can help you. Please make sure you have your ID on you, and if anyone is attending that is not listed on your child's student information sheet, please make sure they are with you at our check-in tables on the front hallway. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great evening!
