Good Afternoon Knight families, this is Mr. Taylor with this week's important announcements.
Tomorrow is our family game night and AIG parent meeting. All events start at 5:30pm, with the games ending at 7pm. Come out and have fun with staff and other families from our school community!
As a reminder our students receive free breakfast and lunch at school daily. This is a great opportunity for your child to ensure they have a good breakfast and lunch each day.
The county is offering free English Language lessons. They are offering light snacks and child care during the lessons. For information and registration check out the flier. ESL Class Flier
If you’re interested in your student having educational international travel experiences SSS HS is having a meeting on Sept 29th, to register to attend use This Link
Many of our families are staying in regular communication with their student’s teachers through Talking Points. Make sure you have the app downloaded and reach out to your child’s teachers for their codes.
On Wednesday we have a home football game and on Thursday soccer and volleyball are home. All games start at 4:15, come and support your fellow Knights!
Reminder that Friday is a teacher workday, there is no school for students this Friday.

Mañana tendremos nuestra noche de juegos familiares y la reunión de padres de AIG. Todos los eventos comienzan a las 17:30 y los juegos terminan a las 19:00. ¡Vengan a divertirse con el personal y otras familias de nuestra comunidad escolar!
Les recordamos que nuestros alumnos reciben desayuno y almuerzo gratuitos en la escuela todos los dĂas. Esta es una excelente oportunidad para que su hijo/a se asegure de tener un buen desayuno y almuerzo a diario.

Grade-level proficiency, which is defined as students earning a Level 3, 4 or 5 on End-of-Grade and End-of-Course assessments, increased an impressive 3.8 percentage points, rising from 57.2% in 2025 to 61.0% in 2026.
These results are an exciting reflection of the progress taking place across JCPS and demonstrate that our district is moving Forward with strong momentum toward higher levels of student achievement and academic growth.

Good Afternoon Knight families, this is Mr. Taylor with this week's important announcements.
I hope everyone has been receiving Talking Points updates from their student’s teachers. You should be receiving weekly updates to keep you informed of what’s going on in their classes. If you are not using the app and only receiving messages in texts, you will need to download the app before Oct 19th as text messaging will not work after that date and you will have to use the app.
Our first family night of the year is planned for September 21st from 5:30-7:00pm in the media center.. We will have our AIG parent meeting at 5:30pm in room 159 next to the media center as well. We will have a variety of board games available to play among families or to play against our staff. This is an opportunity to engage with our staff in a fun way while building community! Our first Title I Family Night will be Tuesday, October 20th. This night will be academic focused. More information to come.
Students have been assigned Chromebooks. If you have not completed the JCPS beginning of year documents your student will NOT receive a Chromebook. Complete these today.

All students have completed iReady benchmark assessments. Official student results will come home with progress reports on September 28th, however your student knows their results and can discuss them with you. They are engaging in practice lessons daily at their instructional level within the iReady system.
Volleyball and Soccer have home games on Wednesday this week, come out and support your fellow Knights!

Graduation rates continued to improve during the 2025-2026 school year, with JCPS reaching an outstanding 92.6%, compared to the state rate of 88.8%.
A graduation rate that exceeds the state average is a significant accomplishment, and it reinforces JCPS’s commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed and graduate prepared for college, careers, and life beyond high school.
This achievement reflects the collective efforts of our entire school community to provide the high-quality education students need to reach graduation and prepare for their next chapter.
Having 91% of our schools earn an A, B, or C is a meaningful accomplishment that demonstrates the strength of academic performance across JCPS and reflects the hard work of students, educators, school leaders and families. This success is further supported by the fact that 73.5% of JCPS schools met or exceeded growth expectations, with four schools ranking among the top 20% of schools statewide for academic growth.
Together, these results demonstrate the continued progress taking place across our schools and reinforce JCPS’s commitment to providing students with the high-quality education they deserve.

The overall performance composite is a measure that reflects the percentage of students who demonstrate grade-level proficiency on state assessments across tested subjects and grade levels, providing a broad picture of academic performance across the district.

The district’s goal, as laid out in the Strategic Plan, is to be ranked in the top 20% in the district. The performance demonstrated by JCPS during the 2025-2026 continues a positive move in that direction.

It was a day of celebration for JCPS as 7 schools were celebrated for their extraordinary performance during the 2025-2026 school year!
North Johnston High, Smithfield-Selma High, Smithfield Middle, Four Oaks Middle, Benson Middle, West Johnston High, and West View Elementary were among the schools identified as “Schools Moving Forward”! Congratulations!

During the July 14th regular scheduled meeting, the JC Board of Education approved revisions to Policy Code 4304: Code of Student Conduct.
There was special attention to Section F. 36, which provides governance for the "Possession, Display, Use, Sale or Distribution of Vapes".
Revisions define vapes and expresses that there will be a 10-day suspension for any student in violation of the code.
We strongly encourage parents to speak with your child(ren) regarding the details of the policy and the consequences moving forward.
Please know that the Johnston County Board of Education strives to mitigate health and safety concerns related to harmful substances such as tobacco products and/or vapes. The revised verbiage and the associated penalties have been set to achieve this goal.

Good Afternoon Knight families, this is Mr. Taylor with this week's important announcements.
We had a great first week of school, it was wonderful seeing all of our Knights back and in class. This week, in addition to learning their core content, students will be creating Social Contracts in all of their classes, make sure to ask them about it throughout the week.
Tuesday and Wednesday all students will be taking the iReady benchmark assessment for Math and ELA. It is critical that students try their best as they will be assigned practice within the iReady system at the level they test at. This practice will occur weekly, so we need it to be at their level!
We have had about 50% of our families complete the JCPS beginning of year documents. Students will NOT be assigned a Chromebook until their forms are complete. Make sure you complete these with your student as soon as possible! Beginning of The Year Documents
Hopefully everyone has received Talking Points messages from their student’s teachers. Make sure to download the Talking Points app and join their classes on the app! It’s the easiest way to stay connected with our teachers!
If you are coming through afternoon carpool, please make sure to pull all the way, past the awning to pick up your student. This allows us to load more students at one time and shorten the time of carpool.
Our first home games of the fall season start Wednesday with Volleyball and Soccer playing at 4:15.Ticket prices have increased to $7 this year. We hope to see our students and families out supporting their fellow Knights.

Buenas tardes, familias de Knight, les habla el Sr. Taylor con los anuncios importantes de esta semana.
Tuvimos una excelente primera semana de clases; fue maravilloso ver a todos nuestros Caballeros de regreso en clase. Esta semana, además de aprender el contenido básico, los estudiantes elaborarán un Contrato Social en clase. No olviden preguntarles sobre ello durante la semana.
El martes y el miércoles, todos los estudiantes realizarán la evaluación de referencia iReady de Matemáticas y Lengua y Literatura. Es fundamental que se esfuercen al máximo, ya que se les asignarán ejercicios de práctica dentro del sistema iReady, adaptados a su nivel. Estos ejercicios se realizarán semanalmente, ¡asà que es imprescindible que sean adecuados a su nivel!
Aproximadamente el 50% de nuestras familias han completado los documentos de inicio de año de JCPS. A los estudiantes NO se les asignará una Chromebook hasta que completen sus formularios. ¡Asegúrense de completarlos con sus hijos lo antes posible!Documentos de inicio de año
