Hello, Riverwood Ravens! Here is this week’s edition of News from the Nest. We are making the final push to the end of Q3 and Spring Break. The Last Chance Due Date for Q3 is this Friday 3/22/24. For vacant positions with subs, Ms. Benner and Ms. Boudreau will be getting grades updated in PowerSchool so students know what they need to turn in and will communicate with subs and students via Google Classroom. Students in classes with subs, should check Google Classroom to ensure that all assignments have been submitted for grading. Carson Byrd received a March Character Education Award for Compassion! As a Riverwood Middle 7th grader, he willingly and selflessly assists a specially-abled student transition from class to class throughout the day. Byrd is patient with the student, and treats him with dignity and respect. Without hesitation, he steps in to serve as a companion and champion for his classmate. Congratulations!✨

Hats off to Amy Wellbrook, our March 2024 Certified Employee of the Month! A 6th grade math teacher at Riverwood Middle, she keeps the team running like a well-oiled machine. Hello Raven Families, We have noticed an uptick in consistent dress code violations recently, including inappropriate words or images on shirts, midriffs showing, undergarments showing, and shorts not coming to mid-thigh. Please ensure that your student is dressed appropriately when they leave the house in the mornings. The JCPS Dress Code (Policy 4316) states the following: a) Students must wear clothing that covers their skin from upper chest to mid-thigh with opaque (non-see-through) fabric in front, back, and on the sides. Breasts, genitals and buttocks must be covered with opaque (non-see-through) fabric b) Students must wear shoes at all times except when changing for physical education or athletic practices or events or when specifically directed otherwise by a teacher or administrator. c) Clothing must cover undergarments (waistbands and straps including). d) Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education, science labs, wood shop, and other activities where unique hazards exist. e) Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms, special programs or safety gear. f) Head coverings (including hats, hoods, sweatbands, and bandanas) are generally prohibited in the school building. However, students may wear head coverings in the school building as an expression of sincerely held religious belief (e.g., hijabs or yarmulkes) or cultural expression (e.g., geles) or to reasonably accommodate medical or disability-related issues (e.g., protective helmets). If students cannot adjust their clothing to be in compliance, they will be offered clothing from the clothes closet to wear or allowed to call home for additional clothing items. Hello, Riverwood Ravens! Here is this week’s edition of News from the Nest. Be sure to join us on Tuesday night for Spring Family Night from 4:30-6:30pm. The book fair will be open, as well as the Anne Frank Exhibit in the 7th grade hallway. This extraordinary exhibit leads guests through the life of Anne Frank, whom students in 7th grade learn about in Social Studies and 8th graders read about each fall semester. We will also have the Coney Island NC food truck on site so you can grab dinner…and it’s delicious so you definitely want to take advantage of not cooking! Spring sports kickoff this week with home games on Monday and Thursday. GO RAVENS! JCPS has experienced district-wide issues with PowerSchool today. If your student did not receive a progress report today, please see the information below from JCPS Tech Services. Good Afternoon, If parents do not receive a paper copy of the progress report today, they will have access to self-generate it through the Parent Portal. This option will remain turned on until we can resolve the issues that some teachers are experiencing with getting things finalized. Last night, JCPS celebrated the 2024 Leading with the Heart recipients!💝 The event, inspired by Mike Krzyzewski’s book, “Leading with the Heart,” recognizes those staff members throughout the school system that demonstrate leadership, compassion, and heart on a daily basis. One person from every school as well as central services was nominated by their peers, because of their unwavering commitment and dedication to their role. Dear Families,   Thank you for your support of Riverwood Middle School and the investments you make in your children’s lives. The students at Riverwood Middle School have done an amazing job supporting our school and there is still one day left to help our school and qualify for participating in the 2nd annual RMS Color Games Fundraiser Event being held tomorrow! As a reminder, we’re raising money for continued support of our athletic programs, school beautification initiatives fostering a positive and supportive environment to promote student's academic, emotional, and spiritual growth, continued advocacy for RMS families and so much more! To qualify for participation, students must raise a minimum of $30 in total donations to participate in the Color Games Event. Also, please note that students participating in the Color Games Event that it is recommended to bring a change of clothes, and sunglasses will also be beneficial!
