We’re still looking for volunteers!

JCPS continues to shine! 🌟
We are excited to announce that Johnston County Public Schools has continued its journey to becoming one of the best districts in the state, according to 2024-2025 data recently released by NCDPI.
A few of the district highlights included a significant increase in student proficiency scores and school performance grades, with 93% of our schools having a school letter grade of A, B, or C! 75% of our schools met or exceeded growth, which is well above the state average.
Amazingly, 15 of our schools rank in the top 20% statewide, with seven schools in the top 10% for growth! Graduation rates for JCPS schools continue to rise, with JCPS reaching 92.5%, which is significantly higher than the state average of 87.7%
A huge thank you to our incredible educators, hardworking students, and supportive families for helping drive this success forward! 📈

Johnston County Public Schools is committed to providing quality education to its students and professional learning environments for its staff, free of distractions, and supporting high-quality teaching and learning, enhancing student well-being, and maintaining a safe and focused school environment.
Recent studies indicate that cell phone use, particularly for social media and interaction, can interfere with students' ability to focus on learning and negatively impact students in many ways. Excessive use of cell phones and social media has been linked to lower academic performance, increased behavioral issues, and other conditions that hinder students' ability to excel.
In recent legislation, House Bill 959, Session Law 2025-38, revisions were made addressing clear guidelines for the use of cell phones to include educational purposes. The Johnston County Board of Education has adopted Policy Code: 4318 Use of Wireless Communication Devices.
Families are strongly encouraged to review the policy in its entirety.

Good evening Riverwood families.
This is Mrs. Pawlak and I am incredibly honored and humbled to serve as you Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. I know many of you already received the message from Mrs. White about her new position with Johnston County Schools and that I will be the next principal starting August 1st.
I am excited about this opportunity to serve RES students, staff and families, but first want to encourage you all to come out and celebrate Mrs. White on her last day at Riverwood with a Thank You drive-through Parade.
The drive through parade will follow along the carline route circling by the front of the school. Decorate your cars, have your kids make cards or just be present to give your thanks to Mrs. White for all that she has done for Riverwood Elementary and its families.
Please join me on Thursday, July 31st from 5:30 - 6:30 as we say farewell and best wishes on her next endeavor.
Thank you and I will be sharing more information in the coming weeks pertaining to the new school year.
Have a wonderful evening

Good morning Riverwood Elementary families. This is your principal, Mrs. White. I wanted to make you aware that I have accepted the position of Johnston County Public Schools Area Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Schools. Applying for and accepting this role at the district level has been one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made. I love this school, I love this Staff, I love our families, and I especially love our students. I have had the privilege and pleasure of serving as principal of this great school and community for 9 years. Our Staff, parents, and students have sustained me. Your support and trust over the years means so much to me and you and our students have had a deep and lasting impact in my life. However, I feel that I am being called at this time to serve our district in a different capacity. I am beyond excited to tell you that Mrs. Pawlak will be your new Principal effective August 1st. Mrs. Pawlak is more than ready to lead this school into its next chapter and wonderful things will happen under her leadership. She is incredibly equipped and prepared, and I know that you will give her your full support as you have given me. She and this top notch Staff will continue the incredible work we’ve done together. Please know that I will miss our students and our families more than words can express. I live in this community and am excited to still be a part of this community and school events. I also look forward to you and our students emailing me, calling me, and keeping me updated on your lives. Riverwood is a very special place and I'm leaving a piece of my heart here and I thank each of you for allowing me to serve for so many years. Have a wonderful summer and I will see you soon.
