Good evening Patriot Families,
This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn, with your updates for the week. This has been a busy, but fun week! The book fair began on this past Monday and most of you have already been shopping, but don’t worry if you haven’t had the chance. On Tuesday night, September 17th, we will be having a Book Fair/Curriculum Family Night from 5:00 -7:00 pm. We invite you to come to visit your child’s classroom where you will be making and taking fun resources to help your child learn and grow at home! Title I information will be provided for the 24-25 school year and while you are here, you are welcome to shop in the book fair, located in the gym.
Also this week, We have had the Apex Team on campus teaching our students that Future Leaders are grateful, kind, and respectful to our peers and those with more experience like our teachers and parents. Ask your child what leadership lesson they learned today! The Apex team will be putting on a huge event on Thursday, September 19 to celebrate everything they learn and the money we raise! In the past, this huge event has purchased playground equipment and this past year, it purchased murals which will be installed all over the school shortly. This Apex Fun Run Event will be located outside on the middle playground area and family members are welcome to attend. Students will be running laps at the following times: K/1 will be at 9:15-10:15, 2nd grade at 10:15 - 11:15, 5th grade at 1:00 -2:00 and 3rd and 4th grades will be together at 2:00 - 3:00. 3rd through 5th graders will have color added to their run so they may want to bring an extra shirt with them. Students are aiming to get pledges from 10 sponsors to help raise money for the school, and they are earning thank you gifts for their pledges. On average students complete between 26 and 36 fitness laps with 36 being the most they can get credit for, and a minimum entered of 26 laps. So, if a pledge is made for $1 per fitness lap, the donation should be around 30 dollars. To donate, please check out your student’s “Apex VIP Badge” that was sent home earlier this week. All instructions are inside. Just go to www.myapexevent.com and use your student’s special “access code” printed on their VIP Badge to log in and enter your pledges. If you cannot find your code, just email info@apexleadershipco.com. This helps the school and helps us keep track of pledges.
Thank you for all that you do to help support our school and your children. We appreciate you and have a wonderful weekend.

Families of middle school walkers,
Due to the rain and flooding in the parking lot, we are making the decision to cancel middle school walkers today. Please make arrangerments to get in carpool or check your child out in the front office by 3:15. Safety is our first priority. Thank you for your understanding.

We welcome volunteers at MCES, but you must be approved through the JCPS system. If you are planning to be a chaperone for your child's field trip this school year, you must be a JCPS Level 2 Approved Volunteer. Also, volunteer status MUST be renewed each school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the office.

Good evening, Mcgee’s Crossroads Families,
This is your principal, Lyndsey Dunn, calling to remind you of what is happening at school for the next week. We have the Apex team at school teaching our students how to become FUTURE LEADERS with lessons that show that we don’t have to wait until we’re grown up to change the world! Becoming a Future Leader starts now! Today we had our kick-off pep rally so look for your child to come home excited with an “Apex VIP Badge” (pledging information). Students will be asking for pledges to help support Shade Structures ; Outdoor Enhancements, Staff Appreciation, Continued Advocacy to MCES Families and so much more!
Here’s how you can help:
1) Help your child ask 10 people for a pledge for the Apex event at our school.
2) Create a video of your child asking for pledges and email it to everyone you know or
post it to your social media if you choose.
3) Ask your child about the Apex Future Lessons they are learning in class. They will come
home with a habit bracelet each day as a reminder of what they learned.
4) Come to the Fun Run on Thursday, September 19 and cheer on your kiddos. More information will be coming with specific times.
Thanks so much and have a great day!

Our first Duty Free Lunch for teachers will be next Monday, September 16th. We still have volunteer spots available. If you are available to help, please see the link below!

Good evening Patriot Families,
This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn, with a few updates for the week. This week officially ends our Kindergarten families escorting their students down to class and Monday, September 9th is their Independence Day. Overall they have done a wonderful job and we are so proud of them for navigating this very large school! So beginning Monday, no visitors will be allowed beyond the front office during arrival. Please make plans to drop your students off smoothly during carpool.
On Tuesday you received a parent calendar, as well as some other paperwork. Included was a Principal Book Club paper. This year, students have to read 40 books per quarter in order to be invited to the reward party for each quarter. If your child is reading chapter books then 2 chapters can count as 1 book. Each quarter the log must be turned in by the due date. The information is on the letter, but it can be turned in digitally or as a paper. The letter was posted on our social media page so that you can make a copy of the log to fill out.
The Title I office with JCPS will be offering FREE nutrition classes to parents through EFNEP at McGee's Crossroads Elementary. These classes will happen on Wednesdays starting on September 11th and they will last for 6 weeks. Weekly themes are listed on our social media page as well as the sign-up link. All classes will be from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Quantities are limited.

Bus 620 just left campus at 4:18 on Tuesday, 9/3/24 - expect delays. Thank you!

Dear Patriot families,
This is your Principal, Lyndsey Dunn with a few updates for next week. The first full week of school has been a good one and all of our students K-5 have officially entered the building. On Monday, it is a holiday so there is no school for staff or students. We will see everyone back on Tuesday, September 3rd.
Tuesday also marks our Independence Day for students in 1st through 5th grades. Families can drop their students off in carpool in order to make our arrival smooth, and students must walk independently to their classes. Extra staff members are available when students arrive that will help students find their way if they do not remember. Kindergarten parents will be allowed to walk them in through Friday, September 6th, but we do encourage that they begin their Independence day on Tuesday as well. This helps our students get into a routine faster and more comfortable with our staff helping them if they need it.
On Wednesday, September 4th, our 3rd graders will be taking the Beginning of Grade 3rd grade Assessment. A letter went home with this information in their Beginning of Year folder.
Here is a note from our amazing PTA: If you are hoping for a different experience than the front carpool line, you can skip the line and become VIP! Please support our fundraiser by buying raffle tickets for a chance to win a pass that allows you to use the bus parking lot for drop-off and pick-up for the Fall Semester. Ticket sales close on September 5th at 9:00 pm and winners will be contacted by phone that evening. A flier was sent home with a QR code and as always you can check out our MCES PTA page for more information.
On Tuesday, you will receive a hard copy of our Parent Calendar for the Fall and Winter. This will have all dates that apply to the entire school, as well as PTA events. If grade levels are doing specific activities, they will communicate that information separately. Attached to the calendar, you will find a QR code to our Book Fair Sign-up genius. This year our book fair is September 11-20. It takes a lot of volunteers for this to be open to classes and students all day, everyday. Save the date for Tuesday, September 17th at 5:00 for the Book Fair and Curriculum Family Night.
Have a wonderful long weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!

At this time, due to the high demand of families wanting to enroll in Early morning and after school care, we are having to put a limit on the number of students that can attend. Early morning care is capped and full. Please do not make payments online until you have heard from the director on whether you received a spot or are on the waiting list. It is our primary ability to make sure that our staff to student ratio is safe for all who attend. Thank you!

Good evening Patriot Families,
This is Mrs. Dunn, your principal with some updates. Congrats on making it through day 1! We loved seeing the smiling faces this morning. In order to make each day better, here are a few transportation reminders.
Carpool Reminders:
Morning - Please enter the school at the 210 entrance. If you enter off of highway 50, you will be stopped and asked to turn around. Also if you are parking, keep in mind that car rider line is still occurring so be careful when backing out.
Afternoon - You must have a carpool tag hanging from your mirror in order to pick up your child. If you do not you will be asked to park and come in to verify and show your license. Please send a message on rooms if you need one. Please keep your car rider tag on the mirror until your child loads in your car.
Bus Reminders: practice patience. There will be delays this week. No need to worry. Download the Edulog app. Directions are in your beginning of year folder and are also posted on our school Facebook page. There is no need to call the school.
Middle School Walkers:
All parents are required to show their middle school walker pass in order to pick up their child.
Thank you for helping us keep your child safe. Have a good evening. We will see you on Day 2!

Just a reminder that if your child is riding the bus to download the Edulog app - Attached is information about how to download. If you need your child's ID number, please reach out to their teacher.

We can't wait! 🌟

Good afternoon Patriot Families,
This is your principal, Lyndsey Dunn with information about our first day of school, Monday, August 26th. Students can enter at 8:30 a.m. Our tardy bell will ring at 8:55 a.m.
If you choose to, you may walk your child to their classroom door and wish them a good day. All parents/visitors must walk through the Front Entrance and through the Evolve Weapons Detection System. Teachers will be busy starting their day with their new students so they will be able to say hello, but will not be able to have long conversations. We ask that you reserve longer conversations for phone calls or conferences. On Wednesday, August 28th, we are declaring “Independence Day '' for our 1st through 5th grade students to begin walking to their classes without an adult on this day and through the rest of the year. Staff on duty at the front entrance will be holding firm to this, so please be understanding if they remind you that our students need to walk alone.
If your child is a bus rider and you did not receive a bus pass at Open House, we had you go to the cafeteria requesting bus transportation. Those requests have been put into the system and routes will be assigned as quickly as possible by the county transportation department, but please remember a bus assignment is not guaranteed for the first week of school. As soon as your child is assigned to a route, you will be notified. Therefore, your child will need to be a car rider until you receive a call saying that your child has been assigned to a bus. Be prepared for buses to run behind schedule for the first few weeks of school. Once a routine is established, the time frames will improve.
Car rider parents, we ask that you always exercise caution and patience while utilizing our car rider lines. If you were at an open house, you received 2 car rider tags for the year. The car rider tag has to be hanging from the rearview mirror and remain there until your child has loaded in your car. We ask that you not get out of your car while in the car rider line, so that we can safely and quickly keep it moving. There is a video with visuals regarding our carpool process and how it works, posted on our school facebook page. We know that Carpool takes a while and may look unusual to some, but due to our location being in the middle of Highway 210 and Highway 50, we have to be creative with our lines to get traffic off of those highways, allowing others to function normally. If you do not have your car rider tag with you, even if you attend car rider line daily, you will be asked to park and enter the building, to show your ID before receiving your child. This is for safety and security purposes.
We know that Carpool is not everyone’s favorite time, but please know parents are not allowed to walk up with their car rider sign and have their child called. If you are not checking out your student before 3:15 pm, you will be asked to join our car rider line. We are not encouraging that you sign your child out early though, because instruction does occur right up until our final bell at 3:55 p.m. Daycare vans will utilize the back lot entrance.
Everyone who is coming into the carpool line must enter from Highway 210. You cannot enter from Highway 50. When people attempt to enter from the Highway 50 entrance, it becomes a safety concern in the parking lot. If you enter from the Highway 50 entrance, you will be directed by a staff member to turn around and enter carpool through the correct way on Highway 210. Please do not become frustrated with the staff members enforcing the rules. We are all doing our jobs to keep students safe, even if it takes a little bit longer. If you are new to our school or need a reminder, a car pool video link was shared on our school facebook page just a few moments ago.
A google form was submitted online with the criteria that had to be met in order to be a middle school sibling walker. This year tags are being used for safety reasons as well. If you submitted the form, and met the criteria, a tag was created for you. If you did not pick it up at open house, you may pick it up on Monday. Parents must be waiting on the grass when you see the kids walking across the crosswalk and you must have your tag that matches your child. If you do not, your child will not be released to you and you will have to come into the building in order to show your ID. Middle school sibling walkers is a privilege, so please help us be safe.
Please remember that breakfast and lunch are free this year for all students, so if your child plans on eating in the cafeteria, they will not need lunch money, unless they would like to purchase extra snacks or ice cream. If your child would like to eat breakfast, they will need to get it as soon as they enter the building and take it to their classroom to eat.
Thank you in advance for support this year and we look forward to seeing all of those smiling faces on Monday.

Please see the attached video about our Carpool procedures. Have a great weekend, Patriots. We can't wait to see you our 1st - 5th graders on Monday!
