Last night, JCPS celebrated the 2024 Leading with the Heart recipients!💝 The event, inspired by Mike Krzyzewski’s book, “Leading with the Heart,” recognizes those staff members throughout the school system that demonstrate leadership, compassion, and heart on a daily basis. We are excited to announce that our annual food drive is back! This year, we will partner with Providence Presbyterian Church to replenish the Backpack Buddies backpacks. We will be collecting food items throughout the month of February. Our goal for this food drive is to collect 650 items. These items will go directly to the Backpack Buddies program, which provides food to students in need to bring home over the weekends. Because of this program Dixon Road has been able to send home multiple backpacks every week to our students in need. We have shared with our students that if we reach our goal of at least 650 food items, we will celebrate with a school-wide pajama day! Here are some suggestions for food item donations: Canned vegetables and fruits Canned soups and stews with pull-top lids Pasta and Spaghetti sauce with pull-top lids or in jars Peanut butter and jelly Cereal and oatmeal Granola bars and gummy snacks Juice boxes and shelf-sustainable milk Please ensure that items are non-perishable and not expired. Let’s work together to make a positive impact on our students in need. Donations can be placed in the donation bin in the main hallway of the school. Each year in February, our local SECU branches in Johnston County work diligently to fundraise for Johnston Health Foundation’s Heart Fund. This fund helps our county residents cover costly treatment-related expenses such as copays, gas for transportation to appointments, lifesaving heart devices, and medications. We invite you to join us by eating BBQ with a purpose! This year the SECU – McGee’s Crossroads branch is partnering once again with Redneck BBQ Lab and selling tickets for BBQ plates which include pulled pork, coleslaw, green beans, and cornbread. Tickets will be available for purchase at McGee’s Crossroads SECU branch during normal business hours: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, 168 Annette Drive Benson, NC 27504. { You need NOT be a member to purchase a ticket in support of this cause} The branch will also be hosting a silent auction in the front lobby area.
