Let's make some noise for our teachers on #NationalTeachersDay!!!
Teachers don't just teach the students of JCPS, they inspire, motivate, mentor, and coach them. Our teachers pour their hearts and souls into their students each and every day. Teaching is a calling, and we are forever grateful to those who have answered that call, and have chosen JCPS to fulfill their purpose!
THANK YOU TEACHERS!!!💝👏

Many North Carolina schools are waiving their application fees from Oct. 16-20—IF you apply through CFNC.org! Start on CFNC.org’s Application Hub. Other schools may be accepting special fee waivers through ACT, SAT or NACAC.

Good Evening Pirate Seniors!
In North Carolina, Seniors are required to have proof of their Meningococcal booster in the first month of school. Our nurse has been working hard to verify records and sent an email to families with a missing record.
Documentation of 12th grade vaccinations must be received by September 26th, 2023. Johnston County Health Department will be doing two clinics for school vaccines. If you received an email from Nurse Franklin, your child is deficient with these vaccines. You can find information on the flyer she included in the email.
If your received an email from Nurse Franklin and your child has received these vaccines, please provide documentation. You can hand deliver the proof of vaccine to the schools main office, mail them to the school or email them directly to Ms. Franklin. You could also request the pediatrician to fax it to the school. Make sure to address attention to the school nurse if hand delivering, mailing or faxing.
If you did not receive an email from Nurse Franklin in the last week, and you are a returning student, she likely has all your information.
Thank you and have a great evening!

Good Evening Pirate Families!
It is already the third week of school! This Friday, students will receive their first round of progress reports. This week, we also start Pirate Time where students attend tutorial/study sessions and some clubs will be meeting. We have a slightly different schedule on Monday and Tuesday as we close out our 10 days of Advisory. The events, schedules, and clubs can all be found on the Cannon Blast at bit.ly/chhs_cb. Parents, if you haven't had the chance yet, download the JCPS app from the app store and toggle on "Rooms" to begin getting messages from your child's teachers. You can also find the link to fill out beginning of the year paperwork on the website banner!
Let's get ready for an outstanding week!

The annual HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) College Fair is Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. It will be held in the IBM RTP Education Center. Visit the CHHS homepage for registration information!

Our Pirate Updates are ready for the upcoming week! Big events this week include PSAT registration for 10th/11th and Homecoming Ticket Sales at lunch through Thursday! As always, check out the full list at bit.ly/chhs_cb

Registration for The PSAT ends Thursday, Sept 7. The PSAT is $18 for Juniors and Sophomores, who have passed Math II. Complete the Registration Form on the website and pay online at bit.ly/CHHSpayments . The PSAT will be administered Oct 17 at 7:25 am. The PSAT/NMSQT measures skills that are important for success in college. This year, the PSAT will be delivered in a digital format; the digital test has 2 sections-Reading and Writing, and Math. For Juniors, the PSAT is the qualifying test for entry to the National Merit Scholarship competitions for college scholarship. It is excellent practice for the SAT. For more information contact Ms. Vincent, Testing Coordinator in Student Services.

JCPS CLOSED FOR ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF THURSDAY, AUGUST 31
Due to the impending inclement weather conditions caused by Hurricane Idalia, Johnston County Public Schools will be closed for all students, staff, and visitors tomorrow, Thursday, August 31. This includes all after school activities on Thursday. The district will operate under Condition 1 of our Inclement Weather Procedures. Weather Conditions can be found online by visiting www.johnston.k12.nc.us/weatherconditions.
This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and per the guidance of local and state emergency service officials.
We hope that all of our students, staff, and families stay safe, and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this severe weather event.

We had a wonderful first day back to school and want to thank all of our students, staff, and families for working together to make today a success. We want to share a few reminders to keep things running smoothly in the days and weeks ahead.
In the first few weeks of school, it’s typical for our bus routes and carpool lanes to run a bit slower than normal. Our drivers are getting used to new routes, there are more drivers on the road, our students are getting into a routine, and most importantly - we are focused on keeping everyone safe at all times. We ask that you keep these things in mind if our arrival and departure procedures are moving more slowly than we anticipate. If your student is a bus rider, we encourage you to download the EduLog Parent Portal App, for real time information on where your student's bus is on their route.
We also want to remind our families that the majority of our schools are offering free breakfast and lunch this school year. All schools, with the exception of Clayton High, Cleveland Elementary, Cleveland High, Corinth Holders High, and Powhatan Elementary, will offer free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision. Families with students attending non-qualifying schools are encouraged to complete a Free and Reduced meal application to receive benefits for this school year. This form, which can be found on the district website, assists our schools in many other services throughout the year, and can be beneficial for our families and students.
Lastly, please be reminded that all of our school campuses now have a weapons detection system in place at the entrances of our school. All students, staff, and guests will be expected to pass through the system upon arrival to our campuses.
This first week of school is a busy time, with a lot of excitement for our students. Please be reminded that attendance will be taken daily. However attendance calls for students who are marked tardy or absent will not resume until next week.
We thank you in advance for your help in making this a great school year.

Just one more sleep until we welcome our students back to school!! We hope all of our students get a good night's rest and are excited to take on the day tomorrow! We can't wait to see you in the morning! ❤️📚🍎
