The 2026 JCPS Leadership Conference kicked off today!

This year’s theme is Stronger Together, and for the rest of this week, administrators and staff will learn valuable information for themselves and their school teams.

Principals are focusing on three main essentials: Students First, People’s Principal, and Instructional Leadership. Assistant principals are focusing on Principal Support, People Leadership, and Instructional Leadership.

It’s been a jam packed morning for our newest principals and assistant principals!

They participated in training sessions designed with the tools they will need to move their schools forward on the path to student success and academic achievement.

The afternoon sessions will also be filled with essential district elements including “Why Do We Exist: Principal Essentials” and “Why Do We Exist: Thriving as a New Assistant Principal”.

The professional learning experience focused on equipping district and campus leaders with strategies to cultivate positive relationships, strengthen school culture, and build high-performing learning environments where students and staff can thrive.

⚽🏀🏐 Benson Middle School Summer Sports Workouts 🏐🏀⚽ The Benson Phantoms are gearing up for an exciting year of athletics, and we invite all interested student-athletes to join us for summer workouts! Whether you’re interested in soccer, volleyball, or boys basketball, summer training is a great opportunity to improve your skills, build relationships with teammates, and prepare for the upcoming season. Our coaches are committed to helping athletes grow both on and off the field and court while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and Phantom pride. Summer workouts are designed to help students stay active, develop fundamentals, and get a head start on the season ahead. ⚽ Soccer Soccer workouts will be held throughout June, July, and early August from 6:00 PM–8:00 PM. Athletes should come prepared to work hard, improve their skills, and represent the Phantom tradition. 🏐 Volleyball Volleyball summer workouts will take place throughout July and August, with tryouts scheduled for mid-August and the first official practice beginning on August 24. This is a great opportunity for players to sharpen their skills and prepare for the season. 🏀 Boys Basketball Boys basketball workouts are open to interested athletes and provide an opportunity to develop fundamentals, conditioning, and teamwork while preparing for the upcoming season. ✅ Important Reminder: All student-athletes must have a current physical and all required Final Forms paperwork completed and up to date before participating in any workouts, practices, or tryouts. 📅 Please refer to the attached flyers and calendars for specific dates, times, locations, and contact information. We are excited to see our Phantom athletes working hard this summer as we continue Building Players. Building Character. Building Phantoms. 💙💛 Go Phantoms! 💛💙

The JCPS Elementary School All-County Honor Choir performed to a packed house at Selma Elementary! Students from 10 schools came together to rehearse and perform a dynamic medley of songs, including one in Swahili and another in American Sign Language. During the all-day rehearsal, they also learned the choreography.

Conductor Sally K. Albrecht, who has led honor choirs across the country, worked with the students throughout the day. Albrecht has conducted at renowned venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center.

As families arrived, they were welcomed by artwork from the Elementary School All-County Honors Artists, with selections curated by the Johnston County Arts Council and the North Carolina Museum of Art.

A special thanks to the JCPS Fine Arts program for allowing our students to showcase their talents and creativity!

What an incredible first day at Special Olympics Johnston County Spring Games 2026!

There was so much excitement from the start! Before the games began, the teams paraded around the track to the cheers of the families and friends gathered in the stands.

From 100-meter races and running jump, to tennis ball throw, and bowling, our elementary Special Olympics athletes showed incredible athleticism, determination, and sportsmanship.

Huge thanks to Special Olympics Johnston County for partnering with JCPS to put together this great event at Smithfield-Selma High.
