We'll end today by recognizing Mr. David Hawks, principal at West View Elementary! Mr. Hawks is a lifelong educator starting his 46th year in education. He has stepped into his first year at West View Elementary ready to lead the way for the Wise Owls. Johnston County Public Schools hosted its Legislative Breakfast this morning. State legislators, representatives, senators, Johnston County Board of Commissioners, Johnston County Mayors, and stakeholders joined the Johnston County Board of Education, cabinet members, and staff to discuss various school related topics. Topics included: academic performance, capital, EC, and low-wealth funding, Parental Bill of Rights, parental leave, and more. The discussions provided insight into these topics and were a springboard for conversations in the future. JCPS is thankful for the continued support offered to the students and families of of our school system.

Christina Barone, a teacher at Cleveland Middle School, is our Certified Employee of the Month! A vital part of the Cleveland Middle family, Christina Barone's compassion for student success is evident in all that she does. Her guidance and support of all staff members is unparalleled, and her willingness to support where needed extends beyond the regular school day. She regularly volunteers to assist with various tasks required for a smooth and well-planned school experience for all stakeholders, continuously moving Cleveland Middle from good to great! Polenta Elementary Head Custodian Jason Oliver is our Classified Employee of the Month! He had 23 nominations for Employee of the Month!!! Jason Oliver consistently exceeds his responsibilities, significantly impacting the school's cleanliness, safety, and overall morale. As the head custodian, he has shown exceptional leadership skills. Leading by example, Oliver motivates the custodial team to maintain high standards, and ensures that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. He fosters a sense of unity and cooperation among team members, improving productivity and contributing to a harmonious workplace for all. Let's hear a Puma roar for Jason Oliver!!! 👏😎

Finishing up our week of celebrations, we're recognizing South Smithfield Elementary Principal Chad McLamb! Alessandra Lima, a fifth grader at West View Elementary, received a Character Education Award for the character trait of Respect! Lima has been chosen as Student of the Month an astounding five years in a row! She does an excellent job representing all the characteristics of a true wise owl student by working hard in class, completing her work on time, and being a kind friend to all other students. Let's give a Wise Owl round of applause for Alessandra Lima! 🦉

Our next Character Education Award recipient for October is Harrison "Reid" Roberts! An eighth grader at McGee's Crossroads Middle, Reid Roberts stands out from the crowd as a respectful and responsible young man. He is a leader who works hard daily to give his best at all times. Not only is Reid responsible to himself, his peers, teachers, and school, he is also very kind, displays good manners, and is trustworthy. He is a great student and an even better person. Way to go Reid Roberts!!!😎

Swift Creek Middle Principal Dr. Kerri Evans is our next incredible administrator we are celebrating! Since the school’s opening in 2017, Dr. Evans has been giving her all to the Swift Creek community, and this year is no different. Veda Swan, a fifth grade student at McGee's Crossroads Elementary, received a Character Education Award for the trait of Respect! Swan continuously demonstrates a level of maturity in the school setting, and she models positive behavior for her peers. When she does not agree with the opinions of others, she is able to express that in a respectful manner. Swan is welcoming to all of her classmates, and treats everyone as equals. At this evenings regular scheduled meeting, and right on time for our National Principal Month recognitions, the Board appointed Ms. Michelle Butler as the Interim Principal of Corinth Holders Elementary! Ms. Butler is no stranger to the CHES community and has been making a huge impact in the lives of students, staff, and families for years.
