National Special Education Day is celebrated on December 2 every year to recognize the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This is the first federal law to guarantee equal access to public education for children with disabilities. ❤

The weather outside was frightful, but the smiles were so delightful! 🤩
Riverwood Elementary held its annual Kindergarten Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Each kindergarten class showed off their theme as they marched along the parade route. The entire school came out to watch along with families and students from Riverwood Middle.
There was laughter and joy, and even Santa was there!🌟










Several JCPS leaders recently seized the opportunity to present at the 2024 North Carolina School Boards Association Annual Conference on Tuesday, in Greensboro, NC.
The session was titled, “Board Governance + Instructional Leadership = High Performing School District” and the team shared strategies and procedures that have contributed to JCPS’ recent academic success and consistent improvement over the past 5 years. The team discussed everything from student engagement, curriculum, the importance of synergetic relationships between the Board and leadership, accountability at all levels, goal setting and follow through, effective organizational structure, benchmarking, and more.
Presenters were JCPS Superintendent Dr. Eric C. Bracy, Area Superintendents Patty Whittington, Ken Byrd, and Roderic Brewington, Chief Academic Officer Anna Kuykendal, Asst. Superintendent of Accountability and School Performance Kristy Stephenson, and Benson Elementary Principal Dr. Takicey Dunston.

In honor of Thanksgiving, there is no school for traditional calendar students from Wednesday, November 27th through Friday, November 29th.

Today was all about giving thanks at Thanksgiving Elementary School!🥧🍂
JCPS School Nutrition Services created a homemade traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixins' for the students and their families to enjoy! Smiles were everywhere when the peanut and sweet potato showed up! What a wonderful way for the school community to gather together.

Mrs. Melinda Eason is our Certified Employee of the Month for November 2024!
As an educator for 23 years, Mrs. Eason is a student advocate at Clayton High. During her career in education, she has been a traditional and special education teacher, and is now part of the student services team.

She is in the fifth grade at Cooper Academy and is recognized for the character trait of responsibility. She leads by example by consistently coming to class prepared, completing all assignments, staying on task, and mentoring students struggling with classwork.

Our final Character Education Award recipient is Jessica Aguilar Ventura! 🥳
She is a fourth-grader at Wilson's Mills Elementary and is recognized for respect because she is considerate, works well with others, and is constantly willing to lend a helping hand. Her teachers are exceptionally proud of her for all she has achieved.

The Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability ELA Team would like to recognize Ms. Patty Sharp as the November 2024 ELA Super Star Teacher of the Month. Ms. Sharp is an English 1 teacher at Cleveland High .
Ms. Sharp is doing great things in her classroom and for our students to ensure that they are getting what they need to be successful at their current level and those to come.

A fifth grader at East Clayton Elementary, Perry is recognized for her dependability. She is not only reliable in her own efforts, but also displays a positive attitude and willingness to assist others.
The motto at East Clayton Elementary is to prepare, adapt, and succeed. Perry embodies these values every day as an Explorer, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed.

West Clayton Elementary fifth-grader Hailey Lowery is a November Character Education Award recipient! ✨
Recognized for self-discipline, Lowery actively seeks challenges and strives to improve her school and community. She engages in various activities, including violin lessons, singing in the chorus, mentoring younger students through Bulldog Buddies, and founding a successful debate club for fourth and fifth graders.

JCPS students lead the 20th Annual Veterans Day Celebration to honor our local heroes and their families! 🇺🇸
Veterans were treated to an event filled with pomp and circumstance, and a Thanksgiving-style meal following the ceremony.
