Our typcial graduation ceremony in the cafeteria couldn't be held this year due to Covid-19, so we improvised with a a graduation parade!

The week of May 4- May 8, 2020 was the official Teacher Appreciation Week across the nation. Normally, during this week, we provide special treats for our teachers/staff at school during the school day. This year, since we are out of the physical building and all learning is online, we got creative and had a Virtual Appreciation Week!

JCPS Principal and AP of the Year value teamwork, community
Dr. Kerri Evans, principal of Swift Creek Middle School, was selected as the 2020-2021 Principal of the Year for Johnston County Public Schools. Carson Cataliotti, assistant principal of South Smithfield Elementary School, was selected as the 2020-2021 Assistant Principal of the Year for Johnston County Public Schools.

Before School Care and After School Care Begin October 19, 2020
With the return of face to face instruction, we are excited to start back our Before School Care and After School Care/My Kids Club programs.

Beginning of Grade (BOG) Testing Letters
As your child begins third grade, you will see a concentrated focus in ensuring students can read at or above grade level and is making progress in reading proficiency, so they can read, comprehend, integrate, and apply complex texts needed for secondary education and career success. As part of the Read to Achieve law (G.S. ยง115C-83.1) passed by the General Assembly in 2012, your child will take the Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG3) Reading Test to establish a baseline measure of beginning third-grade reading skills. This test will be administered within the first 20 days of face to face instruction, October 26 - November 23, 2020

Virtual Parent Information Sessions with Teachers
Each grade level will have their own designated time to hear from their child's teachers, learn about parent expectations to help with virtual learning and ask any questions you may have. This is a great opportunity to chat with your child's teacher in a virtual setting!

Free Breakfast and Lunch for ALL students for 2020-2021 School Year
South Smithfield Elementary will open for curbside service for meal pickups on August 17th. The lunch service time is 11:00am-12:00 pm Monday through Friday

Calendar and Report Card Update
As the school year comes to a close, please note that JCPS meal service will now operate at 9 sites during the summer months, rather than the previous 14. Summer meal service will begin Monday, June 1. Curbside meals will be served Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Benson Middle, Clayton Middle, Four Oaks Elementary, North Johnston Middle, Princeton Elementary, Selma Elementary, Smithfield-Selma High, West Clayton Elementary, and West Smithfield Elementary.
