Literary Magazine Yearbook Staff
Diverse Universe is SmMS's award winning publication. SmMS students submit poems, stories,and artwork all year. Additionally, the Diverse Universe is a yearbook capturing a snapshot of the year. The staff has been busy compiling and editing, including the publishing program and graphic design.ย

SmMS Student Placed 3rd in JCPS Middle School Spelling Bee
Drew Webster, a sixth grade student at SmMS, won the schoolwide spelling bee earlier in the year. He was recognized by the Board of Education Meeting in May for placing 3rd in the District Spelling Bee.ย

IB Learner Profile Student of the Week - Open-Minded
Each week during the fourth nine weeks, students who demonstrate the IB Learner Profile of the week will be selected. This week our students demonstrated being Openminded.

SmMS Spring Arts Night
SmMS held its Spring Arts Night on Tuesday, May 3rd. The audience was delighted by performances by the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands, the 6th and 8th grade choruses, and the general music class. In addition, student artwork was on display for parents to see.ย

Two Smithfield Middle School Teachers Recognized as 2022 Flame for Learning Award Semifinalists
Beverly Harper and Patience Spivey were recognized on Tuesday, April 26th as 2022 Flame for Learning Semifinalists! The Flame for Learning Award is Johnston County Public Schools and the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Award.ย

Our Spring Arts Night will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd. Come out to see our band, chorus, general music, and jazz band students perform! Artwork will also be on display. We encourage each family to have only two attendees at the performance for seating capacity.

Smithfield Middle To Offer Saturday Academy
Smithfield Middle School is excited to offer a Saturday Academy opportunity for our students prior to End of Grade testing. ย Saturday Academy will provide students an additional opportunity to receive support in sixth through eighth grade reading and math. In addition, eighth grade students will receive additional support in science.

5th Grade Family Night
Smithfield Middle Fifth Grade Family Night will be on Tuesday, April 5th from 6:00-7:30. Learn more about our daily school operations, athletics, band, chorus, and how students can have a successful transition to middle school.

Cultural Family Night
Cultural Family Night will be held on Tuesday, March 5th. Families will be exposed to different cultures as well as AVID WICOR strategies and the IB Learner Profile Attributes. Community organizations will also be present for this event.

Healthy Wellness Informational Night
Smithfield Middle School will host local community agencies such as Hope Services, Alliance, Pathways, Easter Seals ,Pride and Dr. Allen, JCPS Executive Directorย of SEL for a Healthy Wellness Informationalย Night. This event will be Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 6:00-7:30 PM

Calling all submissions for the Literary Magazine!
The Smithfield Middle Literary Magazine is a collection of art, poetry, writing, drawings, and works created for students by students. Our team of students is looking for any art or poetryย that is your own creation to add to our publication.

CASE Administration 2
Beginning Wednesday, December 8th students will take their CASE assessments which helps teachers understand how students are progressing towards grade level standards. The reading assessment will be administered on Wednesday, December 8th. The math assessment will be administered on Thursday, December 9th. The Grade 8 Science assessment will be administered on Friday, December 10th.

Information Night for High School Choice Application Programs for the 2022-2023 School Year
Information Night for High School Choice Application Programs for the 2022-2023 school year will be held virtually from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30th for our 8th grade families. Families will be able to virtually explore the booths beginning at 5:00 PM, and a live stream presentation from the Choice Program coordinators will begin around 5:30 PM.
