    • Chili Cook-Off Winners

      On Friday, Feb. 1, River Dell Elementary staff participated in a chili cook-off to gear up for Superbowl weekend. Thirteen teachers entered chili into the competition which was judged by special guest Johnston County Public School Opertations Direcetor John Bell, School Resource Officer Mike Medlin and Board of Education member Tracie Zukowski. The staff was also able to enjoy the chili's and appetizers that were provided. There were five top spots who received a golden spoon as a prize. In fifth place Julie Bennett and Lindsay Pecora tied for the spot. In fourth place was Nancy Wielechowski, in third place Kim Perez and in first place was Rachel Squillini.

    • First Grade Teacher Receives Grant for RDE

      Congratulations and thank you is in order for first grade teacher Cindy Raynor who received a $625 from Johnston County Education Foundation. Raynor applied for this grant based on her project “Story Time with STEM Friends.” On Jan. 16 Raynor was presented with her check from Brandy Crocker. Raynor’s first grade class is forming a friendship with Mrs. Joyner’s Kindergarten class through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Friends. Each month the two classes get together with an integrated reading and STEM activity that the students enjoy.

    • RDE Announce Student of the Month for January

      The character trait for the month of January at River Dell Elementary was dependability. Each teacher chose one student from their classroom that represented dependability.

    • Fourth Grader acts as Principal for a Day

      In December a lucky fourth grader was able to shadow River Dell Elementary Principal for a whole day. Matthew Briggerman in Mrs. Welch’s fourth grade class had the highest bid at the RDE Fall Festival for the prize of being principal for the day. During the day Briggerman shadowed RDE principal Chad Jewett for the day. During the day he made phone calls, visited classrooms, organized lost and found and helped clean the cafeteria.

    • STEM Night Volunteers

      This year for our 3-5 STEM Night we would like to invite our wonderful community of Scientists, Engineers, Mathematicians, and Technology Professionals into our school to present their knowledge, talents, and/or careers to our upper grade students and their families. We are in search of any River Dell Families or Friends of our school community that may have a willingness to volunteer about 2 hours in the evening on March 28th to share their passion/career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math with our upper grade students.     • Kindness Project

      Our Art Teacher, Mrs. Anayiotos, needs our help. She would like to do a Kindness project. The kids will paint rocks with words of kindness. The painted rocks will be placed in a Kindness garden. She needs smooth rocks (at least 1 side needs to be smooth), cans of white paint (used to paint the rocks before the kids paint them), and cans of clear sealer. Thank you for your support!

    • SGA Valentine's Fundraiser

      SGA is selling candy February 11th and 12th for $.50. Candy includes fun size Skittles, M&M's, and Fun Dip. Carnations will be on sale February 13th and 14th. Carnations cost $1.00. All extras will be on sale Friday, February 15th. The sale will take place in the front lobby from 8:30-8:55 a.m. All money raised will go towards our Rise Against Hunger event at the end of the year.

    • Jump Rope for Heart Information

      Our Jump Rope for Heart event will be held on Friday, February 15th. Instant prizes will be given out each morning from 8:30-8:55. Be a heart hero and help support Jump Rope for Heart!

    • Parent Information Session

      A parent information session will be held on Thursday, February 21st from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. We would like to give parents an update on the progress of our school and address our goals for moving forward into next year. We would also like to give our parents an opportunity to give feedback on what you view as the biggest challenges facing our school and suggestions on how to improve our school to be the best we can be. We will have childcare provided for this event and we would love to have a big crowd.
