This message is for our Kindergarten parents. The Orientation originally scheduled for Thurs, Aug 31 at 5:30 PM has been canceled. Orientation for our Kindergarten students will be on Tues, Sept 5 and Wed, Sept 6 at 8 am. Your child's teacher will call to let you know which day to attend.

JCPS CLOSED FOR ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF THURSDAY, AUGUST 31
Due to the impending inclement weather conditions caused by Hurricane Idalia, Johnston County Public Schools will be closed for all students, staff, and visitors tomorrow, Thursday, August 31. This includes all after school activities on Thursday. The district will operate under Condition 1 of our Inclement Weather Procedures. Weather Conditions can be found online by visiting www.johnston.k12.nc.us/weatherconditions.
This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and per the guidance of local and state emergency service officials.
We hope that all of our students, staff, and families stay safe, and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this severe weather event.

We had a wonderful first day back to school and want to thank all of our students, staff, and families for working together to make today a success. We want to share a few reminders to keep things running smoothly in the days and weeks ahead.
In the first few weeks of school, it’s typical for our bus routes and carpool lanes to run a bit slower than normal. Our drivers are getting used to new routes, there are more drivers on the road, our students are getting into a routine, and most importantly - we are focused on keeping everyone safe at all times. We ask that you keep these things in mind if our arrival and departure procedures are moving more slowly than we anticipate. If your student is a bus rider, we encourage you to download the EduLog Parent Portal App, for real time information on where your student's bus is on their route.
We also want to remind our families that the majority of our schools are offering free breakfast and lunch this school year. All schools, with the exception of Clayton High, Cleveland Elementary, Cleveland High, Corinth Holders High, and Powhatan Elementary, will offer free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision. Families with students attending non-qualifying schools are encouraged to complete a Free and Reduced meal application to receive benefits for this school year. This form, which can be found on the district website, assists our schools in many other services throughout the year, and can be beneficial for our families and students.
Lastly, please be reminded that all of our school campuses now have a weapons detection system in place at the entrances of our school. All students, staff, and guests will be expected to pass through the system upon arrival to our campuses.
This first week of school is a busy time, with a lot of excitement for our students. Please be reminded that attendance will be taken daily. However attendance calls for students who are marked tardy or absent will not resume until next week.
We thank you in advance for your help in making this a great school year.

We are in need of additional Advisory Council Members. JCPS Board Policy 5005 (https://bit.ly/JCPSpolicy5005) explains the role of our Advisory Council and next steps if you are interested. Please email PaigeBarnes@johnston.k12.nc by Friday, September 15 if you are interested in serving on the Advisory Council.

Just one more sleep until we welcome our students back to school!! We hope all of our students get a good night's rest and are excited to take on the day tomorrow! We can't wait to see you in the morning! ❤️📚🍎

Good Evening Bulldogs!
We are so excited to welcome our first through fifth grade students onto campus tomorrow, Monday, August 28. I have included a graphic of our arrival and dismissal process to help with smooth drop off and pick ups. Please know that traffic will be tough for the first week or two as bus routes are created and more students are being dropped off and picked up by cars. It will settle down in the coming weeks if we follow appropriate processes, stay aware of what's going on and staff direction, and exhibit patience and grace. Students are able to enter the building at 8:25 am with our tardy bell ringing at 8:55 am. Dismissal will begin at 3:55 pm. We do ask that students walk to class on their own as it makes for more efficient and less emotional drop offs. We will have multiple staff stationed outside of and inside the building to assist students with getting to the right place. Lastly, if you do need to enter the building, please do so at the front entrance and be reminded of our weapons detection system that is in place. We are so excited to get the year started so that we can build on all of the progress we made last year and level up to even higher success!
Sincerely,
Paige Barnes

We are still looking qualified candidates for a classroom of amazing young bulldogs that need love, care, and someone willing to adapt the curriculum to meet their needs.

We are excited to see our Kindergarteners for assessments this week. Please park in a designated parking spot (not the bus lot) and enter the front door. You need to stay for 15 minutes to complete important paperwork but can then leave and return to get your child when their scheduled time is over.

We're just FIVE days from the first day of school! Can you believe it?! Be sure to check the Johnston County Public Schools mobile app off of your school supplies list! Parents, teachers, and students will use the mobile app for our two-way communication tool this school year! Download it in the Apple or Google Play store today so you're ready for the first day!

Please go to http://www.johnston.k12.nc.us/parentdocs and complete the three beginning of year forms.

Message for Fifth Grade Parents!
Due to some necessary restructuring, we have had to change some homerooms. Students that are impacted likely received a postcard that said they would have Esteva or Shearin. We have made sure that all students are with a teacher that will help them be successful this school year. Please look for rosters outside of teacher classrooms Thursday evening to find out if any changes took place. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to helping our fifth grade students level up this year as they prepare for Middle School!

Good Evening Bulldogs!
We are so excited to welcome you back to West Clayton Elementary for the 2023-2024 school year. We hope you are ready to LEVEL UP as we nurture and engage one another in our learning so that we can achieve. Please be reminded of our Open House for Grades 1-5 on Thursday from 4:30-6:30 PM. You can check on bus information, car rider information, before and after school care and your child's classroom. As a reminder, security measures are in place to help us keep students and staff safe while they are in our buildings. When you come to a school's front doors, press the button on our buzzer system at the main entrance to allow you to be greeted by a school employee. The school employee will ask to see your ID, as this is a district protocol. Please be sure to have your ID readily available when you come to check out your child or conduct other business on campus during the school day. Once you are provided entrance to the school, please walk directly through the Weapons Detection System. Items that routinely cause the systems to false alert, due to their shape and composition, are eyeglass cases, laptops, umbrellas, and 3 ring binders. Keeping these items in your vehicles, as opposed to bringing them with you into school, will expedite the process for gaining entrance into the office area. If the detection system happens to alert as you're passing through it, please wait for direction from an employee who will assist you in gaining access to your destination. We thank you for your support as we strive to make our schools as safe as possible for students and staff. Lastly, please don't forget to download the new JCPS app. This will be how we can communicate important information with you at the district, school, and classroom level. We look forward to seeing you all soon as we start another amazing year at WCES!

We have had an amazing first week back at WCES. Teachers came together to learn, grow, and have fun as we prepared for our students to arrive so that we can LEVEL UP! We even took time to enjoy a food truck thanks to our wonderful PTA and had cake to celebrate the our achievements in 2022-2023.

All students enrolled in a qualifying Johnston County Public School (with the exception of 5 non-qualifying schools) will receive a healthy Breakfast and lunch at no cost to the household this upcoming school year through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
Households of students that attend a qualifying CEP school will no longer need to submit a Free and Reduced Meal Benefit Application for the upcoming school year. Students that attend a non-qualifying school will still have the opportunity to submit a meal benefits application in order to qualify for free, reduced, or paid eligibility status. Applications for the 2023-2024 school year will be accepted starting July 10, 2023.

So thankful for our Clayton Rotary Club! They provided us with a shopping spree today to get supplies to kick off a great school year.

Our families seemed to like the one-stop-shop format for Orientation Information on our website - so we thought we'd make school supply lists just as convenient! Supply lists for our elementary and middle schools for the 2023-2024 school year are available now at: www.johnston.k12.nc.us/schoolsupplies
We hope this makes you getting ready for the first day of school - August 28th - a little bit easier!

Please join us in giving a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our Principal of the Year, Mrs. Paige Barnes from West Clayton Elementary, and to our Assistant Principal of the Year, Dr. Tobias Hocutt from Four Oaks Middle School!! These two outstanding administrators received their award today in front of their peers and family members.
Mrs. Barnes and Dr. Hocutt - we are so thankful for all of the tremendous work you do for the students of Johnston County Public Schools. You all are an asset to our team - and we couldn't do this without you! 🎉🤩
