Thanksgiving Elementary School

Thousands of supplies. Hundreds of donors. One common goal…helping those in their time of need. ❤ Today our Facility Services team gathered supplies from our schools, which were Hurricane Helene Relief donation sites. In a few hours, these supplies will be transported to Western North Carolina. Thank you to the many, many students, parents, and staff who have responded promptly and compassionately. Also, a special thanks to Johnston County Government and the Johnston County Sheriff's Office for allowing us to partner with you in this effort. 🤝

JCPS communities came together in an extraordinary way for our neighbors in Western North Carolina! 🌟 Donations from our schools for the Hurricane Helene Relief filled three dump trailers, three 3 box trucks, two pickup trucks, and two vans! This outpouring of kindness, compassion, and generosity is what our school system is built upon. We thank everyone involved in this effort! We continue to keep everyone affected by this devastating event in our hearts! ❤

As we provide critical assistance to our neighbors in Western North Carolina, here's a reminder of our district's partnership with Johnston County Government's Hurricane Helene Relief Effort. The region is in dire need of new, unused blankets. As you continue supporting the relief efforts, place these at the top of the list. Thank you!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. Thank you all so much for your support in our Color Run fundraiser! With your help, we have collected over $34,000 for our school so far! We will be keeping our site open and continue to collect donations through the weekend. Our Color Run will be held during student’s enhancements times on Friday, October 4th (Kindergarten- 1:05pm; 1st Grade- 1:55pm; 2nd Grade- 10:35am; 3rd Grade- 12:15pm; 4th Grade- 2:45pm; 5th Grade- 9:05am). Parents are welcome to come and cheer their child on while they complete their laps. Please make sure you have your ID, we will have tables set up in our front hallway for you to check in. And don’t forget to have your student wear their class color tomorrow for the Run! I also wanted to let you know that Tuesday, October 22nd is a teacher workday; students do not have school on that day. I wanted to make sure you were all aware. I hope you have a wonderful evening and thank you for your time!

JCPS continues to exceed the state average graduation rate! 🎓 In 2024 our graduation rate was 91.3%, well above the state average of 86.9%. 🥳 #GreatThingsAreHappeningInJCPS

Academic growth is very important to JCPS! 📚 The district is proud to announce that 89% of the schools received a letter grade of A, B, or C, an increase of 24% from 2018! Likewise, 85% of the schools in the district met or exceeded growth, a 56% increase from 2018! JCPS is truly moving forward! 🌟 #GreatThingsAreHappeningInJCPS

This is our biggest fundraiser for the year and all of the proceeds will come directly back to our school to help provided academic resources for our teachers and students. Let's start next week off strong with our weekend challenge! The top earning class in each grade will earn a recess swag bag that includes lots of fun prizes such as a soccer ball, football, kickball, jump ropes, toss games, and more to enjoy at recess. I hope all of you were able to stay safe during the storm today. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday!

Today is our official kickoff of our color run fundraiser being held on Friday, October 4th. Thank you to those that have already signed up and contributed! For those of you that haven’t, don’t forget to register by tonight to earn your students free sign-up prize to be given out on Monday. We’ve also got a weekend challenge! The top earning class in each grade will earn a recess swag bag that includes lots of fun prizes such as a soccer ball, football, kickball, jump ropes, and toss games to enjoy during their recess. Our culminating event will be a Color Run next Friday, October 4th. Students will participate during their enhancement time and parents are welcome to come out and cheer on your child. As you have already heard, Johnston County Schools will be closed tomorrow for students and it will be a remote learning day. There is not any expectation of live instruction tomorrow and teachers will be sending you information via Rooms pertaining to tasks your child can do tomorrow. If you are not able to communicate through Rooms, please email your child's teacher and they can send you that information via email as well. I hope everyone stays safe in this weather and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday!

Did you know... JCPS is 1 of 12 districts to exceed pre-pandemic achievement? Not only that, six of our amazing schools exited low performing status. All student subgroups are above pre-pandemic achievement, and JCPS is closing the achievement gaps. #GreatThingsAreHappeningInJCPS

The next data highlight from the 2023-2024 school year data report is phenomenal! Twenty-three of our schools earned their way into the top 20% of the state for growth. This accomplishment is just one example of students, teachers, and parents working together to propel our district up! #GreatThingsAreHappeningInJCPS

Voters will have the opportunity on November 5, 2024, to vote for a bond that could provide $120 million to JCPS and continue to improve the quality of education we offer our community. It is imperative that all of our leadership and school stakeholders understand the projects that will be funded by this referendum. Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. We have our annual Curriculum Night tomorrow night from 6pm to 7pm. This is an evening where you get to come and learn about the different curriculum and assessments that your child will be doing throughout the school year. We do have childcare for children that are 5 years or older if you need it. Our enhancement team will have a movie for children in our gym. And finally, I want to remind you that we have an Early Release day this Friday, September 27th. Our carpool and buses will be dismissed at 1:55pm. We do not have afterschool care this Friday or any of the early release days.

Johnston County Public Schools is in the process of selecting a calendar for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years. 📅 During the September 10, regular scheduled meeting the JC Board of Education received three (3) calendar options for each school year, and has requested that each of the calendar options be made available for your review and feedback.
