JCPS will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

All students and staff should report to schools and campuses on a two-hour delay.

We have been advised that the potential of black ice is possible tonight through Tuesday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions. To allow for better road visibility for our bus drivers, students, and staff drivers, we will be on a two-hour delay tomorrow. We encourage all travelers, especially our student drivers, to travel with caution.

School nutrition will serve breakfast upon students’ arrival. Early morning care will open two hours later than the normal start time.

Thank you for your understanding as we work with local safety and emergency officials to ensure that we are all safe during these inclement weather events.

Johnston County Public Schools is committed to providing quality education to its students and professional learning environments for its staff, free of distractions, and supporting high-quality teaching and learning, enhancing student well-being, and maintaining a safe and focused school environment.

Recent studies indicate that cell phone use, particularly for social media and interaction, can interfere with students' ability to focus on learning and negatively impact students in many ways. Excessive use of cell phones and social media has been linked to lower academic performance, increased behavioral issues, and other conditions that hinder students' ability to excel.

In recent legislation, House Bill 959, Session Law 2025-38, revisions were made addressing clear guidelines for the use of cell phones to include educational purposes. The Johnston County Board of Education has adopted Policy Code: 4318 Use of Wireless Communication Devices.

Families are strongly encouraged to review the policy in its entirety.

Say hello to one of our amazing dual language teachers from Selma Elementary School, Micaela Acosta! Micaela says, "What I love most about being a part of JCPS is the strong sense of community and collaboration." It is those kinds of beliefs that make her such an impactful part of the Yellow Jacket team and why she was nominated as a Flame for Learning honoree this year. We are beyond proud of the continued success Micaela shows in the classroom and throughout the community. Micaela is one of nearly 5,000 current employees who have found rewarding career paths in JCPS! You could be next! https://bit.ly/M_Acosta #GreatThingsAreHappeningInJCPS

"This is the perfect place to achieve your dreams as an educator, and if you want to feel supported. If you feel that you need to work in a place with a true focus on student learning and life-changing opportunities, this (JCPS) is the place to be." Maritza Rosado Selma is a small rural town that is bustling with great things! Among those things is Selma Elementary, which is fortunate enough to be led by Mrs. Maritza Rosado! Mrs. Rosado joined the JCPS team many years ago after being inspired by the family-oriented work environment and the community of passionate educators who were driven just as she was. As a leader, Rosado truly believes in pushing her students to achieve while maintaining a healthy balance of fun and instruction. Mrs. Rosado's impact on the Selma community is profound. It is astounding to know that it all began with a spark of interest years ago, which quickly kindled into a flame for education. She made a decision to pursue a career in education with JCPS, and the rest is history! Learn more: https://bit.ly/3ETsokN #GreatThingsAreHappeingInJCPS
