JCPS is looking for Reading Buddy volunteers to help our students this summer! We need parents, grandparents, community members, and high school students to join our Summer Reading Camp participants during morning arrival. Volunteers will listen to and encourage students as they develop their reading skills. No experience is required, but you will need to register and be a volunteer with JCPS before you begin. Sarah Crews is the next April 2024 Character Education Award Recipient! Crews is in the fifth grade at Princeton Elementary, and was recognized for her dependability as a student and as an individual. She is a valuable member of the flag team, Battle of the Books and Science Olympiad. Carolina Romero is our April 2024 Classified Employee of the Month!🎉 Romero is a teacher assistant at Princeton Elementary and spends her day ensuring that all families feel a part of the school community. Her ability to translate and communicate with Spanish-speaking families has transformed relationships and increased communication throughout the building. Last night, JCPS celebrated the 2024 Leading with the Heart recipients!💝 The event, inspired by Mike Krzyzewski’s book, “Leading with the Heart,” recognizes those staff members throughout the school system that demonstrate leadership, compassion, and heart on a daily basis. One person from every school as well as central services was nominated by their peers, because of their unwavering commitment and dedication to their role. Join us in congratulating our First Year Teacher of the Year, Ms. Amy Mitchell. 🎉 Ms. Mitchell is a 5th grade Language Arts teacher. She has been part of the Bulldog staff for a few years now holding different roles. She has been an instructional assistant, worked the front desk, and been a long term substitute. Next week on February 9th we will celebrate the 100th day of school! 💯 Our teachers are planning fun activities in the classroom and we would like to invite our students (and staff) to dress up to celebrate the day. 🎉 Next Friday, February 9th let's show off our creativity to express 100! You might dress 100 years old, wear a shirt with a hundred things or just pull out the brightest clothes you have to show how much you have learned in 100 days. We can't wait to see what our students (and staff!) come up with!

We are already in Quarter 3 of ReadBowl and we are rocking it at PES! Our students are logging so many minutes and we are so proud. 📚 Reading Jogs the Mind: tomorrow let's wear running shoes and socks to celebrate reading. 👟 🧦 Remember tomorrow is the last student day this week. Thursday and Friday are teacher workdays with no school for students.

It is such a joy to watch children get excited about reading! Today we had a schoolwide DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time where everyone (including staff) in the building took time to read for 20 minutes. Ask your child what they read today and maybe have DEAR time at home with your families this weekend to log ReadBowl minutes! We can’t wait to see which classrooms show up on the national leaderboard next week! 📚 We will hold a community blood drive at the school next Friday, January 26th. Help us spread the word! Monday we will start the 3rd Quarter of ReadBowl and our dress up day on Wednesday will be Reading Jogs the Mind, wear your tennis shoes and jogging pants. Under the guidance of local emergency officials and out of an abundance of caution, JCPS will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Everyone is encouraged to drive with caution when traveling.

We are ready to compete in Read with Malcolm - Share the Magic Foundation #READBowl at PES this school year! We have set our goal to see our name on the final National Leaderboard. Today we had a little fun with a Pep Rally to kick off the #WorldChampionshipofReading that begins this upcoming Monday, January 8th! Then students will be out of school from Thursday, December 21, 2023 - Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Students return to school on Wednesday, January 2, 2024.
