Wednesday Read Across America
Riley is very good about noticing when someone is not feeling their best, and she is quick to offer them comfort, praise, and ask them how she can help. She is friendly to each student. She is a friend to anyone who needs one. She cheers others on at recess. She always uses kind words in the lunch line. She is a very compassionate girl! Congratulations Riley! #CompassionatePumas #PassionatePumas #PumaPride

Ok, parents, if you have not registered your child for the kids' heart challenge, let's do it tonight. We need 4 kids to register tonight, so our school can win $500 worth of PE equipment. Also, if you have not completed Finn's heart challenge, we need 7 people to do this for another entry into winning a $10,000.00 gym makeover. Come on, we can do this! Let's do it for the kids!

Harper goes above and beyond to show compassion to her teacher and classmates. She is always ready to help without being asked. One big way that Harper shows a consistent sense of compassion is through helping her Spanish speaking classmates. When she sees those peers struggling to communicate, read or understand the lesson, she will step in to help the best that she can (without being asked). She shows love and compassion for not just her teacher, but other teachers in the hallway by always giving them a hug first thing in the morning. Harper is always showing compassion as she reminds others to have a kind heart through her words and actions at school. #PumaOftheWeek #CompassionatePumas

Last night, JCPS celebrated the 2024 Leading with the Heart recipients!💝 The event, inspired by Mike Krzyzewski’s book, “Leading with the Heart,” recognizes those staff members throughout the school system that demonstrate leadership, compassion, and heart on a daily basis. One person from every school as well as central services was nominated by their peers, because of their unwavering commitment and dedication to their role. We honor the 53 amazing members of the JCPS family for their work that clearly does not go unnoticed! Thank you!✨ Stay tuned for an event recap video... #ILeadWithMyHeart

Charlotte is a great example of compassion. When her classmates need help she is always willing to truly help them, even teaching them how they could also try to solve what they are working on. When her classmates are not feeling well or are sad she is always paying attention and trying to make them feel better with her words and actions. Way to go Charlotte! Your classmates and teacher are proud of you.

Puma of the Week 2/16
Last week, our 5th grade students were studying about animal skulls. One of our bus drivers, Mr. Brandon Odom who is a hunter, brought in some of the animal skulls he has as a part of his collection. Students had an awesome time listening and learning about the various types of skulls he has collected through his many years of hunting.

Daniel is a boy who exhibits compassion for others across settings. He is not only helpful to others but understands the value of demonstrating love at the correct time. Every year, during book fair, we send Daniel money to buy one book and he always comes back reporting he bought something for a classmate who did not take any money or will pay the rest for a child who did not have enough. He has done this since Kindergarten when he attended school in NJ. When Daniel was younger, we went to a public playground and there was a child who had some developmental delays. After a while I realized Daniel trying to communicate with the child using gestures, he was calling her to follow him in the tag game. After a while, I realized the girl was mute. Despite not knowing sign language and understanding the girl could jot communicate with him the way he communicated with others, he included her and played with her. At the end of their game when we were about to leave, Daniel went to the girl and hugged her. It is beautiful to see that Daniel is concerened with others and is willing to help others with the little things, even if that means, he will have a bit less or play a different version of a game.
