🎪🍎 JCPS School Nutrition Services celebrated National School Lunch Week at Riverwood Elementary with a circus-themed celebration focused on the importance of healthy school meals!
Students enjoyed fun photo opportunities, character mascots, and a special fair-inspired lunch menu.
On October 13th, 2026, Katherine Rowland, a senior at West Johnston High, proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance at our Board of Education meeting.
During her time at West Johnston, Katherine has taken advantage of many of its opportunities.
Katherine has enjoyed being a student-athlete at West Johnston. She is very involved in school organizations and has participated in HOSA (a health science organization), the student newspaper club, Wildcat News, High School Battle of the Books, Science Olympiad, Unity Club, Wildcat Ambassadors, and Chem Club.
Katherine is also an active member of her school’s National Honor Society and SGA. She has been class president for three years.
During the summer, Katherine applied and was selected for the Summer Ventures program through NCSSM, where she completed a forensic science research project.
She is captain of the cross country team, a middle-distance runner for the girls’ track team, and a center back defender for the girls’ soccer team.
Katherine has benefited greatly from Johnston County Public Schools through the years before taking advantage of West Johnston’s extracurriculars, AP courses, and the CCP program. She is currently completing college applications and aspires to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

JCPS high school students attended Manufacturing Day hosted by Johnston Community College at the new JCC Advanced Manufacturing Training Facility. Programs at the facility include applied and mechanical engineering, machining, welding, and more.
Students toured the facility, explored hands-on labs and training spaces, met instructors, and learned about career pathways. They were also able to connect with local employers regarding career opportunities, including businesses such as Novo Nordisk, Grifols, and Vulcan Elements.
JCPS is committed to ensuring that every student graduates with college, career, and life readiness.

Today, JCPS students and staff, community members, district leadership, and the Barnhill team came together for the Clayton High School Topping Out Ceremony to celebrate the progress of the Clayton High rebuild.
As part of the celebration, attendees had the opportunity to sign the final beam before it was placed, leaving their mark on a building that will soon become a place for students to learn and grow.
We’re excited to see this project move closer to completion and look forward to the day that we get to welcome the students into the building!

Over the past few years, JCPS has worked alongside the Carolina Hurricanes to bring hockey to our schools, including donations of hockey sticks, wiffle balls and nets that give students the opportunity to learn and play during PE. We’re excited to see how our teachers put these new ideas into action!
Following the Johnston County Education Foundation’s recent spelling bee, the winning organizations selected JCPS schools and programs to receive scholarship support:
