This week's spotlighted student is Kai-Lin Grey, one of the hardest-working freshmen. Nominated by Mrs. Rand for his work ethic and leadership qualities, he has already made it into SGA as one of the freshman representatives.
Our interviewer, Max, asks Kai-Lin how he believes he has demonstrated these qualities so far this year. Kai-Lin responds, “I always try to be active with others. Try to communicate. I try to understand people.” He emphasizes his process as being all about effective communication and understanding his peers.
Max then shifts the conversation back to Kai-Lin’s leadership roles in SGA, displaying his excitement for SGA’s upcoming plans. Kai-Lin provides a glimpse of what Hispanic Heritage Month may have to offer. Kai-Lin describes their upcoming activity as "kind of a cultural exploration. So it's a sheet with a couple of facts on the doors. I guess, almost like a scavenger hunt.” In addition, Kai-Lin says, “I think it's going to be a really great success for SGA once again. Just overall being an effective member of the group, bouncing ideas off of each other. I think that truly helps us, and I think that will be really helpful.” I am very excited to see all that SGA has to offer this year, especially with the freshmen taking on a larger role.
When asked about who inspires him to be so dedicated, Kai-Lin says his mother. “It's my mom. She's a very hard worker. She's compassionate, and she's always pushed me from day one to be the best person I can.”
However, he, too, faces challenges. Max asks him to expand on some of the hurdles that he has faced. He replies, “One hurdle is just new material. I mean, math . . . I love the class, but I'm not a big geometry guy. Honestly, that's the only thing. Our teachers are great. The students and everyone else here is just great.”
Kai-Lin leaves the readers with an inspiring quote: “The sky's the limit. So, yeah, I think that's just one thing. To leave my mark and have a good impact on others, a great impact.”
