Competition Winners

Each year, Johnston Community College's English department hosts a writing competition funded by the Cynthia DeFord Adams endowment. Adams donated to the Foundation in 1982 to support literary writing, and the endowment is used to award prizes to the annual winners.

Students from across JCC submitted pieces of their original writing in various genres to be judged by the selection panel. The competition was one of many events that occurred as part of the English department's second annual Writers' Week, a weeklong series of workshops and presentations.

During the award ceremony, participants read a selection from their submission and received awards in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

Please join us in congratulating three ECA students who were honored with awards during the ceremony:

  • Wesley Joyner (fiction)

  • Fernanda Bonilla (nonfiction)

  • Andrei Dordea (fiction & poetry)

We are so proud of your accomplishments!
