ECA's Emma Cruz presents her research

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, ECA and CTLA hosted a Science Night on their campus at Johnston Community College in the Tart lobby.

Students present their findings.

Students in Biology, Earth Environmental Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Anatomy & Physiology participated in the event. In addition to presenting their own findings to parents and guests, students took time to visit each other's tables.

The event, led by the schools' science teachers, was an opportunity for students to showcase their recent research, labs, and projects. Additionally, ECA alumni and community partners in relevant industries, such as UNC Health Johnston, Caterpillar, and Dr. Nevzorov from NCSU, attended to share their current research and how science is being used in real-world applications.

A JCC club, JoCo Robos, led by Mr. Brickman, also attended to show off the robot they designed, built, and have taken to competitions.

During the event, participants and guests voted for who they felt had the best presentation of the night. The winners were ECA's Owen Bielert and Wesley Joyner, who shared their knowledge of x-ray crystallography and its applications in cancer research.

The ECA and CTLA staff are incredibly proud of all the students who participated. We can't wait to see what the future holds for you!
