Happy Friday, Explorer Families! Here are some upcoming announcements for next week!
On Monday, please check bookbags for your child's very own Explorer Experience shirt! These shirts are each grade level's team color to represent their Explorer team animal. Thank you to our PTA for supporting this initiative for all of our students! We ask that students wear their new team shirt for every Explorer Experience assembly that we have. Please be sure that you have joined our PTA to support all of their hard work for our school.
Beginning on Monday, we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with this year's theme, "Be Kind to Your Mind and Live Drug Free." On Monday, students are asked to wear red to kick off the week. On Tuesday, wear your craziest mixed up outfit to show that you won't get mixed up in drugs. On Wednesday, scare away drugs by wearing a superhero or character shirt. On Thursday, put drugs to sleep by wearing your pajamas. And on Friday, we will wear our new team shirts by showing that Explorers are Against Drugs! We will be celebrating our students who have demonstrated our core skill of collaboration at this month's assembly on Friday.
Thank you to the North Side Fire Department for their visits this week. 2nd grade will visit on Thursday.
This week is the end of the 1st quarter. Please reach out to teachers to set up conferences for any concerns that you may have. Be sure to finalize this month's reading logs. The class with the most minutes will earn an extra recess. Students who completed logs for September and October will get to spin the prize wheel!

Please view the flyer for more information.

Let's make some noise for our teachers on #NationalTeachersDay!!!
Teachers don't just teach the students of JCPS, they inspire, motivate, mentor, and coach them. Our teachers pour their hearts and souls into their students each and every day. Teaching is a calling, and we are forever grateful to those who have answered that call, and have chosen JCPS to fulfill their purpose!
THANK YOU TEACHERS!!!💝👏

Progress Reports and beginning of the year data reports have gone home with your child today.
Tomorrow, September Reading logs are due! Let's see how many minutes we have collected as a school!
There is no school for students on the JCPS traditional calendar on Friday, September 22, 2023. This is a teacher workday.

Happy Friday, Explorer Families! We are gearing up for a busy week of learning and activity as we have reached the halfway point of the 1st quarter.
On Monday, our Running Club will be meeting for the first time after school. Please look for messages from Mr. LaPlante for more information.
On Tuesday at 6:30 pm, the PTA will host the 1st general meeting for the year. There will be pizza and activities for the students. Please stop by to learn more about getting involved with the PTA. Also, on Tuesday from 6:00-7:00 pm, the Boys Scouts will be present in our cafeteria for an information session. If your child is interested in joining the Scouts, please stop by for more information.
On Thursday, progress reports with beginning of the year testing data will come home with your child. If you have concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher to set up a conference. We will also hold our Fall Open House on October 10th. More information will follow about this event.

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday, Explorer families! This is your Principal, Lauren Sabo, with your weekly Friday update. Thank you to all of you for a wonderful week. It was great having all of our Kindergarten students in the building for the 1st time. We are working out some kinks with carpool and we know that it has been a little slower than usual, but as students learn their numbers and our processes, things will go a lot faster. Please work with your child at home to practice carpool, bus, and lunch numbers. Remember that breakfast and lunch is free for all students this year.
We have officially kicked off our school-wide reading competition, "The Million Minute Challenge!" This year, I am encouraging all of our Explorers to help us by reading 1,000,000 minutes as a school! In your child's agenda or take home binder, you should have a nightly reading log. We ask that students document their reading, or time they were read to for at least 10 minutes per day. We will be tracking these minutes as a school--who will read the most this month--will it be the Dragonflies, Bluebirds, Turtles, Salamanders, Foxes, or Wolves? As Explorers, we Prepare-Adapt-Succeed and that means we are readers! Let's meet this goal!
Also this week, on Thursday and Friday, students will complete their MAP testing. This testing helps us to determine starting levels for skills that your students have mastered or in which they need intervention. This is different from grade level testing as MAP testing measures all skills from Kindergarten through 8th grade. We will use the results of this testing to form our groups for AIR time, where students work on interventions and enrichment.
On Thursday of this week, our grades 3-5 drama club students will have their 1st practice. Pickup will be at 5:00.
Please be sure you have downloaded the JCPS app and connected with your teacher via Rooms. This will keep you the most up to date on information.
Thank you to our military families and to our families with first-responders. As we observe September 11th on Monday, we remember all that was done, and are thankful for all that you continue to do to keep us safe.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Good Evening Explorer Families! This is Mrs. Mellette, assistant principal at East Clayton Elementary. I am calling with an update for our 3rd grade families. Our BOG testing has been moved to Friday, September 8th instead of tomorrow. Again, 3rd grade students will have their Beginning of the Year assessment on Friday, September 8th. Thanks for time and attention. Have a great evening.
Happy Friday, Explorer families! This is your Principal, Lauren Sabo, with some reminders about the week ahead.
There will be no school on Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day. Please enjoy the day with your family.
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, our Kindergarten students will join us for staggered entry. Due to not having an Open House due to the weather, our Kindergarten families are invited for a Meet & Greet with the teacher beginning at 8:25am on their staggered entry day.
On Thursday, all of our Kindergarten students will join us for their official start day. Please keep in mind that this could slow some of our carpool processes, but we will keep working to make sure we have the most efficient processes each day.
Also on Thursday, our 3rd grade students will take their Beginning of Grade test. Please communicate with your child's teacher for more information regarding the BOG testing.
A couple of reminders about transportation: we are not able to take transportation changes or messages over the phone. We need to document all changes in writing directly to the teacher through a written note, email, or Rooms messaging.
Also, we end check out at 3:15pm each day. If you are late to get your child from carpool, they will be sent to the cafeteria and you will pick them up at the bus entrance off of Castleberry Rd.
Thank you for a great first week, and we look forward to seeing all of our Explorers next week!
Good morning, Explorer families. This is Lauren Sabo, Principal at East Clayton Elementary. Today, at approximately 9:45am, we had a fire alarm at the school. Students and staff exited the building quickly and followed all safety protocols.
Students were outside for approximately 45minutes while the North Side Fire Department checked our school. We did find the cause of the alarm which our facilities department is rectifying. All students and staff were safe during this process, and cooperated well with the alarm. We are thankful for the fire department who arrived promptly and checked the school thoroughly for safety. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Good afternoon, Kindergarten families. This is your Principal, Lauren Sabo, with some information regarding Kindergarten entry to school. Tomorrow, August 31st, 2023, school has been canceled due to inclement weather from the approaching storm. As a result, our Kindergarten Open House has been canceled for tomorrow evening. By the end of the day on Friday, you should have received a call and or/ an email from your child's teacher. They will let you know your child's day for staggered entry which will be Tuesday, September 5th or Wednesday, September 6th. On those days, please join us for a Meet & Greet with your child's teacher beginning with arrival between 8:25am and 8:55am. You will be invited to walk your child to class, take their supplies, and help them get settled in the classroom. The teacher will share any information with you that you need to know. We hope this will lessen the emotions for the day and will help your child feel less anxious about their big first day. Our Meet & Greet will end by 9:45am.
If for some reason you do not receive a call or email from your child's teacher, please reach out to us on Friday so we can share the information.
Please be safe during the inclement weather, and we look forward to seeing all of our new Explorers next week!
