This requires us to recruit and train volunteers that can serve as testing proctors for a approximately 1/2 a day (typically 3 to 4 hour testing sessions) on the testing dates set by our school district. Cooper Academy Families!  This is Mr. Stoke, Principal of Cooper Academy with some information and reminders about upcoming events.  Our Battle of the Books Team is scheduled to attend the JCPS Elementary Battle of the Books competition on Wednesday, February 26th.  We wish them the best!We're sending home yearbook order forms for families that wish to submit payment by cash or check.  A copy of this order form is also linked in this message for your convenience.The JCPS Job Fair is Saturday, March 1st at Smithfield-Selma High School from 9:00-12:00 for anyone interested in attending.Our school is celebrating National Read Across America Day on Monday, March 3rd.  We are recruiting volunteers to spend time in our classrooms reading with students on this date.  Please sign up using the link below if interested.Read Across America DayStudents in grades 3-5 are attending a Cultural Arts Performance - “123 Andres” at the Clayton Center on Thursday, March 6th.  Thank you for returning the parent permission forms by Friday, February 28th. Due to the hazardous road conditions caused by the recent winter weather event, Johnston County Public Schools will be closed for all students tomorrow, Friday, January 24, 2025, as well as all extracurricular activities. The district will operate under Condition 3 of the inclement weather plan. For JCPS staff, this day will become an optional teacher workday. Schools and county offices will open at 10 AM. As always, safety is our primary concern and after driving our roadways and receiving guidance from local safety officials and NCDOT, we have been advised that though the main roads within high-traffic areas may be clear, many secondary roads within the rural areas of the county are expected to still have hazardous conditions through Friday, making them unsafe for JCPS transportation use. In addition, many of our campuses have shaded walkways, parking lots, and areas that must continue to be assessed by our operational staff before students may safely return. Extracurricular activities and community facility use will resume on Saturday morning, however, we still encourage site visitors to travel safely and be cautious while on campus, particularly in shaded areas. The National Weather Service has informed JCPS that we may see frozen precipitation as early as 3 PM today. Due to the updated inclement weather forecast, all JCPS schools and campuses will be dismissed one hour early Today, Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The decision is made out of an abundance of caution following the guidance of local safety officials and to provide adequate time for students and staff to safely return home from school. All afterschool activities and events have been canceled as well, including after school care programs. Please be sure to stay warm and safe during this cold weather event.

Due to some changes in weather and out of an abundance of caution, the decision has been made by JCPS to cancel today's trip to the NC Symphony in Raleigh. Every effort will be made to reschedule the schools affected today. Please understand that the safety of all students and staff was carefully considered in this decision.

Happy New Year to our Cooper Academy families! I hope you’ve all had a terrific holiday. This is Mr. Stoke, Principal of Cooper Academy with some reminders about upcoming events. All students return to school on Monday, January 6th and Second Quarter Report Cards go home on Friday, January 10th. Congratulations to Owen who won our school Spelling Bee and will represent Cooper Academy at the upcoming District Elementary Spelling Bee on January 16th! Our Cooper Chorus performers had a terrific holiday showcase right before the winter break. Outstanding job to these students! Student-Led Conferences for the Second Quarter are scheduled for Friday, January 17th at 2:30 pm. We want to introduce our new 5th Grade Science & Social Studies teacher, Mr. Brian Lewis, who comes to us with a wealth of teaching experience. He’s looking forward to meeting our students on Monday, January 6th. Parents will have a chance to meet Mr. Lewis at our second quarter student-led conferences on Friday, January 17th from 2:30-3:30. Monday, January 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. All schools are closed on this date. The 4th grade has a field trip to the NC Symphony and NC Science Museum on Tuesday, January 21st.
