Carolina Hurricanes In-School Program
On Friday, January 6th, Cooper Academy was proud to welcome Coach Thomas Whitmeyer-Weather, a Youth & Amateur Hockey Specialist from the Carolina Hurricanes Hockey Club to facilitate the Canes In-School Program with our students. The Carolina Hurricanes offer in-school programs to equip students with basic hockey game-play knowledge and fundamental skill instruction (stick handling, stationary passing, controlling the ball, and using your body to shield the ball from opponents). The program donates all the equipment for the clinics to the school which includes youth hockey sticks, balls, goals, and Canes pinnies. An emphasis was placed on teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership during the training session.

Spelling Bee Champion Crowned!
On Tuesday, November 22, 2022 we had 18 students from 4th & 5th grade that competed in the Spelling Bee competition at Cooper Academy. Some of the words included in the spelling bee were “faint” “utensils” and “rivalry”. We are extremely proud of all of the participants! First place went to Gianna from Mrs. Gee’s 5th grade classroom! The winning word spelled by Gianna was “toppled”. Second place went to Isla from Mrs. Thompson’s 5th grade classroom. Sam in Mrs. Solorzano’s 5th grade classroom earned third place. Gianna will represent Cooper Academy at the Johnston County Public Schools Junior Spelling Bee later this year. Congratulations to all our spelling bee participants!
