Loshawndo Brown

Congratulations to Loshawndo Brown, our April Classified Employee of the Month!

Brown is the head custodian at Princeton Middle/High, choosing the role for its flexibility and allowing her to interact with everyone in the school.

A native of Johnston County and graduate of Smithfield-Selma High, Brown is the mother of two boys and grandmother to three boys.

Brown sheds light on the importance of her role and what she has learned in her Spotlight Q&A.

How does being named Classified Employee of the Month make you feel?

I am overwhelmed with joy to be named the Classified Employee of the Month for the entire school district.

What led you to choose your role at JCPS?

I was drawn to the custodian role because of its flexibility. It has enabled me to interact with every facet of the school, from the hallways to the classrooms, and beyond.

What have you learned or gained from working in this profession, and how would you like to grow in your role after receiving this recognition?

As the head custodian at Princeton Middle/High, I’ve had the opportunity to increase my computer skills, leadership skills, and people skills. I would like to continue to grow and develop with Johnston County Public Schools.

How do you create an environment where students feel supported and able to succeed?

Each day, I strive to keep the school building clean and safe so the kids will have a healthy learning environment.

Why are student and staff relationships important to you, and how do you build them?

Building relationships with the students is important because when I show them respect, they tend to help keep the school clean. Also, developing relationships with the staff helps create a positive working environment.

Describe a memorable experience that had a lasting impact on you. What made it special, and what did you learn from it?

My most memorable experience was being chosen by Princeton Middle/High as their Leading With The Heart recipient. I was surprised and overjoyed!

What I learned from the experience was to continue working hard and treating others the way I would like to be treated, with respect.

JCPS is honored to have someone as dedicated as Ms. Brown!
