Character Education is a priority for Johnston County Public Schools. Through a variety of means, schools in the district promote character education through rewards, bulletin boards, presentations, and interactive lessons.

Each month, the Johnston County Board of Education recognizes students who have demonstrated good character. Below are the students recognized for February 2026.


Casey "CJ" Denton

5th Grade - Benson Elementary
Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings

Casey “cj”  dentonCasey, better known as CJ Denton, exemplifies the character trait of respect and leads through his actions each day. He consistently shows kindness, compassion, and consideration toward classmates and teachers, always willing to help without being asked.

In and out of the classroom, CJ listens attentively, follows directions, and approaches every task with a positive attitude and strong sense of responsibility. He makes thoughtful choices and holds himself to high standards.

When challenges arise, CJ remains calm and encouraging, helping create a safe, supportive learning environment.

CJ Denton truly represents what it means to be a Benson Elementary Bronco!


Dylan Sandoval

8th Grade - Meadow School
Self-Discipline - Doing your best in all situations

Dylan SandovalDylan Sandoval is receiving the Character Education Award for self-discipline!

Dylan is an exceptional student whose strong work ethic drives him to give his best every day. He consistently demonstrates dedication, responsibility, and perseverance in both academics and extracurricular activities, including Battle of the Books, All-County Band, Math Counts, Track, BETA Club, and as captain of the soccer team.

Dylan balances these commitments while maintaining perfect attendance and earning a place on the Principal’s List. In the classroom, he comes prepared, supports his peers, and leads with a positive attitude and respect for others. Dylan’s character and achievements make him a true role model.

Hallie Davis

8th Grade - Four Oaks Middle
Courage - Doing the right thing even when others do not

Hallie DavisFour Oaks Middle School proudly nominates Hallie Davis for the character trait of courage.

An 8th-grade student, Hallie consistently demonstrates courage by choosing what is right, even when it is difficult or when others take a different path. She stands by her beliefs with confidence, integrity, and respect for others, making thoughtful decisions rooted in fairness and honesty rather than seeking attention or approval.

Hallie speaks up calmly when something is wrong and supports classmates who may feel overlooked. Her actions show that courage is often quiet, steady, and principled, making her a strong role model and a deserving nominee for this character trait.

Aidan Walker

10th Grade - South Johnston High
Dependability - Keeping your promises

Aidan WalkerSouth Johnston High School proudly nominates Aidan Walker for his dependability!

Aidan is a sophomore and an honor roll student enrolled in mostly honors classes. He serves on the South Johnston High Leadership Team and School Improvement Team, where he represents his peers with positivity and responsibility.

As a leader in the Air Force JROTC program, Aidan demonstrates self-discipline, dependability, and initiative, earning increased rank and managing unit communications.

He also volunteers as the school mascot, supporting school and Unified events with enthusiasm and compassion. Aidan’s leadership and service make him an outstanding role model.

Addison Wilkinson

5th Grade - Four Oaks Elementary
Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings

Addison WilkinsonAddison Wilkinson, a 5th-grade student at Four Oaks Elementary, is being recognized for respect!

Addison is a leader both inside and outside the classroom who consistently demonstrates respect, kindness, and responsibility. An excellent student, she is organized, hardworking, and always willing to encourage and assist others. As a fifth-grade safety patrol leader, Addison takes her role seriously, ensuring students are where they should be and greeting younger classmates during morning arrival.

She leads by example by including others and encouraging her peers to do the same. Addison’s positive leadership and strong character make her an outstanding role model.

Perseverance - Working hard and not giving up

Benson Middle proudly nominates Maggie Wood for her perseverance!

A straight-A student in advanced classes, Maggie demonstrates exceptional self-discipline, perseverance, and responsibility while balancing rigorous academics with participation as a three-sport athlete and travel team member.

She approaches challenges with determination and maturity beyond her years. Maggie is also known for her kindness, integrity, fairness, and compassion, consistently encouraging and respecting those around her. Her positive attitude and leadership by example earn the trust of both peers and staff.
