How does being named Classified Employee of the Month make you feel?
Being named Classified Employee of the Month makes me feel appreciated by my colleagues. I began my career with JCPS as a receptionist, and when the opportunity arose to apply as the bookkeeper at Swift Creek Elementary, I was very excited.
This position is a way to continue challenging myself while remaining connected to students and staff, and the fact that my work is noticed by my coworkers means the world to me.
What have you learned or gained from working in this profession, and how would you like to grow in your role after receiving this recognition?
Since stepping into the role of bookkeeper, I have been able to learn an entirely new skill set.
My multi-tasking skills have strengthened tremendously, and will allow me the opportunity to grow and provide the best support to the students and staff at Swift Creek Elementary.
How do you create an environment where students feel supported and able to succeed?
As the bookkeeper, I am able to provide the supplies and tools needed in the classroom for students and staff, ensuring that everyone in the school has what they need to succeed.
Why are student and staff relationships important to you, and how do you build them?
One of the greatest things about this position is the relationships that I have built with staff and students. My goal is for all staff to know that my door is always open and that I am here when they need me.
Also, I want the students to view the office as a welcoming and safe space, so that they feel comfortable coming to me when needed.
Describe a memorable experience that had a lasting impact on you. What made it special, and what did you learn from it?
My most memorable experience has been watching the students, staff, and parents walk in and around Swift Creek Elementary for the first time, and seeing the smiles on everyone's faces.
It makes all of the hours that were spent ordering supplies and making sure that each space has what is needed worth every second!
Kristiina Long, thank you for all you do for the students of Johnston County Public Schools!
