Character education remains an important priority for Johnston County Public Schools. Throughout the district, schools incorporate character-building opportunities into the school experience through student recognition programs, bulletin boards, presentations, interactive lessons, and other activities that encourage positive choices and behaviors.
Each month, the Johnston County Board of Education recognizes students who exemplify good character. We are proud to celebrate the students recognized for demonstrating outstanding character for September 2026.
Audrey Bjorling
5th Grade - Swift Creek Elementary
Self-Discipline - Doing your best in all situations
Since beginning fifth grade, Audrey Bjorling has gone above and beyond to model self-discipline for her classmates. She faces challenges with confidence and perseverance, believing in herself every step of the way.
A natural problem solver, Audrey contributes thoughtful ideas for overcoming obstacles. She also demonstrates self-discipline during group work, taking initiative to ensure everyone’s voice is heard and respected.
Audrey consistently puts forth her best effort and exemplifies the character traits of a model student and citizen. She is truly a role model for her peers.
Penny Dupree
5th Grade - Polenta Elementary
Self-Discipline - Doing your best in all situations
Penny Dupree is an outstanding example of self-discipline and a deserving recipient of Polenta’s Character Representative for August.
She consistently gives her best, actively participates in class, and approaches every task with a positive attitude. Penny challenges herself to exceed expectations and produce quality work. She is also kind, respectful, and caring toward others.
Her thoughtful choices, strong work ethic, and focus demonstrate that self-discipline means giving your best, even when things are challenging. Penny is a wonderful role model and a true representation of Polenta Puma PRIDE!
Braylen Tearry
5th Grade - Cleveland Elementary
Responsibility - Being accountable for your own actions
Braylen Tearry consistently makes good choices, completes his work, and follows through on commitments. He comes prepared to learn, stays focused, and gives his best effort, even when tasks are challenging. He takes responsibility for his actions, learns from mistakes, and strives to improve. Braylen is dependable, respectful, and willing to help others.
His initiative, positive attitude, and maturity make him someone his teachers and classmates can count on!
Aaliyah Melvin
12th Grade - Cleveland High
Self-Discipline - Doing your best in all situations
Aaliyah Melvin exemplifies responsibility, self-discipline, service, and leadership. She is dependable, hardworking, and supportive of her peers.
Through the Sports Medicine program, she demonstrates professionalism and dedication while serving student-athletes and coaches. Her service extends to West View and Cleveland Elementary, Zeta Archonettes, and her church through youth ministry and media support.
Aaliyah leads through her actions, consistently encouraging others and making a positive difference. She truly represents the character of a Cleveland Ram and what it means to "Dare to Be Extraordinary!"
Tucker Inman
8th Grade - Cleveland Middle
Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings
Tucker Inman is an outstanding student who exemplifies strong character in and outside the classroom. He consistently demonstrates respect, kindness, responsibility, and integrity, and willingly helps others while doing what is right.
As a dedicated student, he takes pride in his work, embraces challenges positively, and helps create a supportive learning environment. As a member of the baseball and soccer teams, Tucker demonstrates teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, and respect.
His humility, leadership, and commitment to academics, athletics, and service make him an excellent role model for his peers!
Trenton (“Trent”) Purvis
8th Grade - Swift Creek Middle

Trenton “Trent” Purvis exemplifies what it means to be a Swift Creek Middle Wolf. New to Swift Creek Middle this year, Trent has quickly become a valued member of the community and a standout on the boys soccer team.
He consistently demonstrates perseverance, responsibility, compassion, and respect. He approaches academics and athletics with dedication, preparation, and a strong work ethic. Trent's positive attitude, thoughtful words, and genuine kindness strengthen those around him.
