SSS Students who attended Rotary Shadow Day

On March 26,2026, Smithfield-Selma High School (SSS) students participated in a Job Shadow Day with The Rotary Club of Central JoCo, offering exposure to career fields including Fire Science Technology, Medical, Law, Business, and Finance. The event was led by Mr. Landis Bullock, an alumnus of the school, in coordination with Ms. Judy Yow, the school’s Career Development Coordinator.

Rotary Law, Business & Finance Group

Students interested in law, business, and finance had the opportunity to shadow Attorney Martin A. Tetreault. Their experience included a tour of the Smithfield Courthouse, where they met and engaged with the District Attorney and the Clerk of Court, and observed a family court hearing. The students then visited KS Bank to learn about career opportunities within the banking industry. Their final stop was Acera Wealth Management, where Financial Advisor Chris Key shared insights into his career path and provided guidance on financial planning and saving for retirement, while adhering to client confidentiality policies.

Fire Science Technology students spent the day with the Smithfield Fire Department. They observed the daily responsibilities of firefighters, interacted with the Fire Chief, and participated in physical activities that firefighters routinely perform to maintain readiness for emergencies.

Medical Group

Medical track students visited UNC Health Johnston, where they explored various departments, including cardiology sonography, the wound clinic, oncology, and nursing, gaining valuable insight into healthcare careers.

Overall, participating students had a meaningful and enriching experience, deepening their understanding of their chosen career interests.
