Good afternoon Knight families, this is Mr. Taylor, with this week’s important information and updates
We are in the middle of our EOG testing and we need students to keep working hard and finishing strong. Tomorrow our 6th and 7th grade teachers will be remediating with students who were not proficient on the Reading and Math EOG to prepare them for retakes. We had a lot of students VERY close to being proficient who I know will get over the top when then do their retake.
8th grade students will take their Science EOG on Tuesday, and then begin remediation and retakes.
We begin our awards ceremonies at the end of this week. The award schedule is:
6th Grade is Thursday at 1:30pm
7th Grade is Friday at 1:30pm
8th Grade awards and promotion is May 27th at 9:00am.
We have had some students causing disruptions during testing, or during review. This will not be tolerated and these students will be removed from the class setting in these incidents. Please remind your student that positive behavior is a requirement, not just an expectation.

Estamos en plena temporada de exámenes EOG y necesitamos que los estudiantes sigan esforzándose y terminando con éxito. Mañana, los profesores de sexto y séptimo grado impartirán clases de refuerzo a los estudiantes que no alcanzaron el nivel de competencia requerido en las pruebas de lectura y matemáticas del EOG para prepararlos para las repeticiones. Muchos estudiantes estuvieron muy cerca de alcanzar el nivel de competencia requerido y sé que lo superarán con creces en la repetición del examen.

We had a successful first day of EOG’s. Most of our students put forth great effort and were working hard on their EOG to show off their learning. We received some constructive feedback from our early release procedures, and will be making some slight adjustments to our procedures for Friday. First, only students who turned in signed permission slips on time will be dismissed through the early release process. We will be improving some of our processes in school that should get students out earlier on Friday, however, please be patient as it still takes time to check out over 200 students. On Friday, all parents will line up in the bus parking lot, no one should use the main parking lot for students with early release approval. School staff will be out in the bus lot to direct you. All parents need to stay in their cars in line, no one should be parking and getting out if your students has the early checkout form. Thank you for helping us provide our students with a successful dismissal process.

In the words of the kids “it’s time to lock in” EOG’s are this week. Students will take their Reading EOG on Wednesday and Math on Friday. We need all students on time for EOG’s so they can get breakfast, and be ready to start on time. Students are encouraged to leave backpacks and cell phones at home as they cannot be in the classroom during testing to ensure a secure environment.
Students who have submitted permission slips for early release will receive wrist bands to be released to carpool after EOG’s. Parents, students will come out the front door to be picked up in the carpool line. Please form a double line to accommodate more cars in the parking lot.

8th Grade awards and promotion ceremony, May 27th, 9:00am- Students will receive 4 tickets for this event. Only people with tickets will be admitted due to limited seating. This event will also be live streamed.

En palabras de los niños: "¡Es hora de concentrarse!". Los exámenes EOG son esta semana. Los estudiantes presentarán el EOG de Lectura el miércoles y el de Matemáticas el viernes. Necesitamos que todos los estudiantes lleguen a tiempo para los exámenes, para que puedan desayunar y estar listos para comenzar puntualmente. Se les recomienda a los estudiantes dejar sus mochilas y teléfonos celulares en casa, ya que no pueden estar en el aula durante las pruebas para garantizar un entorno seguro.

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week. Please take time to show your child’s teachers some appreciation. This could be a note, an email, or a small token of your appreciation. Our teachers work hard daily to ensure our students learn at high levels, let’s take time this week to recognize them.
It’s Spirit Week! We would love to see all of our Knights participating this week! Spirit Week Schedule
Tutoring will continue this week on Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30pm. All students are welcome to stay and get support with Math, ELA, and 8th graders will also receive Science support. Students will need to be picked up at 4:30pm at the front of the school.
EOG Retake and Early Release forms are available for your to sign and return if you have not. All students should have returned their retake letter. The Early Release form allows your students to be dismissed to carpool at approximately 12:45 on EOG days.
Class of 2030 Promotion celebrations will be on May 27th at 9am. Each student will receive 4 tickets for family members to attend. The event will also be live streamed
Field Day will be held on Friday this week. Please ensure your student is dressed to spend time outside.

The JCPS Middle School Track Championships, held at Cleveland High, brought together the district’s top student-athletes for a day of speed, strength, and spirited competition.
Congratulations to the Cleveland Middle boys track & field team and the Riverwood Middle girls track & field team, who took home the first-place trophies.

Tutoring will continue this week on Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30pm. All students are welcome to stay and get support with Math, ELA, and 8th graders will also receive Science support. Students will need to be picked up at 4:30pm at the front of the school.

What an incredible way to close out the Special Olympics Johnston County Spring Games 2026!
Today, we had 22 middle and high school teams representing JCPS, and our Special Olympics athletes made the day unforgettable! They led the day from start to finish with determination, lots of energy, and incredible support for one another.
We are so grateful for Special Olympics Johnston County, our Special Olympics athletes, JCPS staff, volunteers, and families who made the Spring Games amazing!

Jakiyrah is empathetic to those who feel they don’t belong, helping them recognize their strengths and feel valued. She listens without judgment and shows consistent kindness and care.
As a tour guide for fifth graders, Jakiyrah helped students feel welcomed and eased their transition to middle school. A leader on the cheerleading squad, she supported younger teammates and led by example. Jakirah is a positive role model who fosters acceptance and belonging in every interaction.
Congratulations, Jakiyrah, for being recognized as the April Character Ed Student for Smithfield Middle! 👏
Congratulations to Christina Schaffer, Visual Arts teacher at Smithfield Middle! She is our Certified Employee of the Month for April! 👏
Schaffer began her educational career 21 years ago, but her love for art began much earlier. She discovered her passion for making art in the fourth grade and knew she wanted to share it with others through becoming a teacher.

Good afternoon Knight families, this is Mr. Taylor, with this week’s important information and updates.
Tomorrow students return to school from Spring Break. We are four weeks away from EOG’s it’s time for everyone to put forth their best effort daily and finish the year strong.
We want our families involved in our school. Come be a part of our Parent Advisory Committee. We will meet quarterly to share information about the school and get your feedback. Our next meeting is April 23rd at 6pm in the Library. We hope to see you there.
We need proctors for our EOG’s from May 13th-26th. Proctors help us ensure that we have a secure testing environment. We need 1 proctor for every three classrooms. Proctors are needed daily from 8:00am to approximately 11:30am. This is a great way to support the school, as well as your students and the ones you know by having a presence in the halls and rooms. If you are interested you need to become a Level 2 volunteer. This takes time so please complete the district form today and let us know your availability.
Starting April 21st we will EOG tutoring after school on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s until 4:30pm. All students are welcome to stay and get support with Math, ELA, and 8th graders will also receive Science support. Students will need to be picked up at 4:30pm at the front of the school.

EOG Retake letters need to be signed and returned to your student’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible. If your child needs another one they can ask their homeroom teacher.

All-County choral students from four JCPS middle schools performed pieces including Deep River, The Little Creek, and the Latin piece Dies Irae. The conductor was Andrew Revels, accompanied by pianist Tracy Finch.
There was also amazing artwork from Swift Creek Middle and McGee’ Crossroads Middle students displayed in the lobby of Corinth Holders High.

Tomorrow, March 23rd is Spring Picture Day. All students will have the opportunity to have their picture taken. Students will bring home a QR code that links to their pictures. This will allow you to preview pictures before choosing to order.
