Congratulations to Eda Martinez on being named the December Classified Employee of the Month!
Originally from Honduras, Martinez has 5 boys who are the apple of her eye. For the past 14 years, she has been a tremendous asset to Pine Level Elementary, greeting students each morning by name and offering encouragement, especially to those who may struggle.
An early riser, she ensures the building is clean and safe before anyone arrives and is quick to respond to custodial needs throughout the day.
As a bus driver, Martinez prioritizes student safety and communicates concerns proactively, often with solutions already in mind.
Known for her warm smile, sense of humor, and strong work ethic, Martinez brings positivity to the school community while taking her responsibilities seriously. She is deeply valued by students, staff, parents, and the broader Pine Level community.
In her Spotlight Q&A below, Martinez expresses the love she has for her Pine Level Elementary family.
How does being named Classified Employee of the Month make you feel?
Being named Classified Employee of the Month makes me feel very honored and proud of my work.
What led you to choose your role at JCPS?
I became part of the JCPS family when my boys were at Pine Level Elementary in order to be close to them and be a part of their education.
What have you learned or gained from working in this profession, and how would you like to grow in your role after receiving this recognition?
I have learned that when we put our heart into our profession, it becomes a passion rather than just a job. Also, I have learned to be more patient when working with adults. I want to continue doing my job as head custodian and bus driver to the best of my abilities for the students of Pine Level Elementary.
How do you create an environment where students feel supported and able to succeed?
I create an environment where students feel supported by greeting them with a smile every day.
Why are student and staff relationships important to you, and how do you build them?
Building relationships is important because every student needs someone to look up to, and I build those relationships by talking with them, listening to them, and making them feel special.
Describe a memorable experience that had a lasting impact on you. What made it special, and what did you learn from it?
I will always remember and cherish how Pine Level Elementary Principal Allen Sasser cared for my children, especially my son Brayan. He had a difficult time transitioning to kindergarten, and Mr. Sasser always comforted him and made him feel special.
I admire Mr. Sasser because he puts his heart into everything. He knows every student's name and treats them all equally. I feel privileged to work with him and all the staff at Pine Level Elementary.
