Good evening!
I hope that each one of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday break. I wanted to reach out with an important announcement for our Jaguar community.
Our school district has recently studied vetted reunification plans and realized the importance of preparing appropriately for the real possibility of having to relocate students and reunify them with parents in the event of an emergency. There are a variety of emergency situations that may require the activation of family reunification plans such as fire, hazardous materials release, or an active shooter incident. Under any circumstance, the process may prove challenging and emotions may run high. Because of this, the need for developing a plan and providing a coordinated response prior to an emergency is essential.
Please know that North Johnston Middle has been selected to participate in a practice reunification training with Micro Elementary on Friday, December 1st. The students and staff at Micro Elementary will relocate to the middle school via buses at approximately 9:30 am on Friday, December 1st. The elementary students and staff will be safely located in the gym while other stakeholders work through the main components of the reunification process, including parent/guardian check out for approximately fifty elementary students. Again, this is simply a training exercise.
Because of this planned training exercise, there will be a large presence of law enforcement and emergency management personnel on the North Johnston Middle campus from approximately 8:30 am through 11:30 am on Friday, December 1st. Our middle school students will participate in their regular school activities during this time.
We look forward to participating in this training exercise as a proactive measure for preparing for an emergency situation. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Have a good evening.
Heather Anders, Principal

Good evening, North Johnston Middle Parents, Students, & Staff,
Please review the following important reminders and information for our Jaguar families.
Any parent or guardian who participated in the PTA Specialty Apple Fundraiser is reminded that apples will be available for pick up tomorrow, Wednesday, November 15th, from 3:15-6:15 PM using the front carpool entrance. A parent/guardian will need to verify that the apple order is correct and will need to sign when picking up the apples. In addition, the PTA will also sell Pura Vida bracelets in school colors for $10.00 each from 3:15-6:15 PM tomorrow night in the media center. The bracelets will make a great gift for students or family members.
As a reminder, a school dance will be held this Friday, November 17th from 3:15-5:15 in the school gym for eligible North Johnston Middle sixth through eighth grade students only. Admission to the dance will be $5.00. Drinks and candy will be available for students to purchase in the concession stand. Drinks and candy items will be sold for $2.00 each. Students should plan to stay after school if they choose to attend the dance; however, rides should be arranged in advance. Students will be picked up in the back of the building at the end of the dance. Students will wait inside the building at the end of the dance, and their names will be called for them to report to the vehicles. Please be prepared to possibly wait as we ensure that our students are dismissed in a safe and orderly manner.

As a reminder, tomorrow, Friday, September 22nd, is a district teacher workday, and there will be no school for students.
Fall School Picture Day is scheduled for Monday, September 25th. All students received a picture order form envelope on Monday, September 18th. Parents and guardians can order online using the information on the form or can return the envelope with cash or check with students on Monday. The information was also posted on our school Facebook page.
The Cards for Cash Fundraiser will end next Tuesday, September 26th. This fundraiser allows us to support our community, and card proceeds will directly benefit North Johnston Middle. Families and friends can use the cards in over 200 locations in the Kenly and surrounding areas to receive discounts. Students are also able to receive prizes based on the number of cards sold. We appreciate your participation in this school sponsored fundraiser! Students should return any fundraiser orders and money on or by Tuesday, September 26th.

JCPS CLOSED FOR ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF THURSDAY, AUGUST 31
Due to the impending inclement weather conditions caused by Hurricane Idalia, Johnston County Public Schools will be closed for all students, staff, and visitors tomorrow, Thursday, August 31. This includes all after school activities on Thursday. The district will operate under Condition 1 of our Inclement Weather Procedures. Weather Conditions can be found online by visiting www.johnston.k12.nc.us/weatherconditions.
This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and per the guidance of local and state emergency service officials.
We hope that all of our students, staff, and families stay safe, and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this severe weather event.

We had a wonderful first day back to school and want to thank all of our students, staff, and families for working together to make today a success. We want to share a few reminders to keep things running smoothly in the days and weeks ahead.
In the first few weeks of school, it’s typical for our bus routes and carpool lanes to run a bit slower than normal. Our drivers are getting used to new routes, there are more drivers on the road, our students are getting into a routine, and most importantly - we are focused on keeping everyone safe at all times. We ask that you keep these things in mind if our arrival and departure procedures are moving more slowly than we anticipate. If your student is a bus rider, we encourage you to download the EduLog Parent Portal App, for real time information on where your student's bus is on their route.
We also want to remind our families that the majority of our schools are offering free breakfast and lunch this school year. All schools, with the exception of Clayton High, Cleveland Elementary, Cleveland High, Corinth Holders High, and Powhatan Elementary, will offer free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision. Families with students attending non-qualifying schools are encouraged to complete a Free and Reduced meal application to receive benefits for this school year. This form, which can be found on the district website, assists our schools in many other services throughout the year, and can be beneficial for our families and students.
Lastly, please be reminded that all of our school campuses now have a weapons detection system in place at the entrances of our school. All students, staff, and guests will be expected to pass through the system upon arrival to our campuses.
This first week of school is a busy time, with a lot of excitement for our students. Please be reminded that attendance will be taken daily. However attendance calls for students who are marked tardy or absent will not resume until next week.
We thank you in advance for your help in making this a great school year.
