Summer is a great time to get ahead if your 4th or 5th graders are interested in joining our Battle of the Books team this school year! You have many options when it comes to reading the books.
Ways to read:
1. Visit our local public libraries to check out the books on the list. **Did you know that each JCPS student already has a library card set up for them? Just go to the circulation desk to ask about Student Access!
2. Listen to the books online for free! On a computer OR on a device visit nckids.overdrive.com or download the Libby app in the app store. All you will need is the student ID number. Contact our Media Coordinator at laurawarren@johnston.k12.nc.us if you need their ID number. **Audiobooks are a great option for long trips, or to read along with the book in your hands to promote comprehension.
3. Purchase the books from any store that sells them!

As we "rocket" off into summer, we wanted to share some of the art work of our fourth graders! Our art teacher, Mrs. Sills, brought her dog, Rocket, to visit a few weeks ago to provide a creative art experience. Artist Angela Alexander, based out of Asheville, North Carolina, has a unique artistic process. Before painting the images, she meets the animal to help her capture the essence and personality of each animal. To recreate this, our fourth graders met Rocket and have worked on creating their own paintings of him.

Kindergarten Readiness Night happening at 5:30! If you have a rising Kindergartner please come out to Micro Elementary's cafeteria to learn what Kindergarten is all about! Popcorn and drinks for all of our rising Kindergarten Stars!

There was a showdown today between Sheriff Eli EOG and the rowdy outlaws! He had to set the record straight with them to make sure they are well prepared for their EOGs starting tomorrow! He also deputized our 3rd-5th graders who took an oath to be well rested, focused, and ready to take their time and use their strategies for their upcoming tests. Kindergarten, first and second graders lined the halls with cheers and encouragement and the North Johnston High School band met them in the gym to welcome our students to our annual EOG pep rally!

Our school would like to say a big THANK YOU for supporting our spring book fair! We were able to raise funds to help us purchase new and exciting books and materials to help support our school library program!
Did you know that graduation rates and test scores in reading and math were significantly higher in schools with high-quality libraries and certified librarians, even after controlling for school size and poverty.*
So again, thank you for helping us support our school community!

The Bridge at the Micro exit is out. Consider an alternate route if this is your usual route. Thanks.
