On March 22nd, 2025, CTLA’s very own debate team—Barbra Sixtos (Junior), Samantha Leyva (Sophomore), Caleb Nease (Freshman), Victoria Ferrer (Freshman), and Katelyn Beal (Freshman)—accompanied by Mrs. Ijames, headed to the North Carolina Bar Association to compete in the 2025 Moot Court Competition.

After months of preparation—crafting arguments, studying case law, and practicing their speaking skills—the team was ready to put their knowledge to the test. When they arrived, the atmosphere was electric with anticipation and nerves.

First up were Barbra and Samantha, competing as the Petitioners in the opening round. They delivered a powerful performance, supporting their arguments with relevant case precedents and strong evidence. Best of all, they got to present in front of real attorneys—an experience that was both thrilling and intimidating. After their round, they received thoughtful, constructive feedback that will help them grow even more.

“I can't wait to use this experience to explore more leadership opportunities,” Barbara shared. “Although it was nerve-racking, I couldn’t be more grateful, and I can’t wait to do it again!”

Next came Victoria and Caleb, who competed as Respondents in the same round. They also performed exceptionally well, proudly representing CTLA after days and nights of preparation. The judges were impressed, offering praise and a few pointers for improvement.

“It was truly a learning experience,” said Victoria, “and I’m excited to prepare for next year!”

Overall, the competition was a huge success. Our team showed off the Wolf Spirit—demonstrating not just their academic dedication, but also teamwork, confidence, and resilience. The Moot Court Competition gave our students an invaluable opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with professionals in the legal field. With insightful feedback from practicing attorneys, they're more motivated than ever to continue sharpening their skills and aiming higher.

One thing’s for sure—the future is looking bright for CTLA’s debate team, and we can’t wait to see where they go next!
