Board votes to begin to return students to face-to-face instruction

The Johnston County Board of Education voted on Tuesday, Sept. 8 to reopen schools earlier than originally planned. 

The new plan is:

  • Pre-K and K-12 Self-Contained EC classrooms will return on Monday, Sept. 28, 2020.
  • These students will attend school Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

  • Kindergarten students will return Monday, Oct. 12, 2020.
  • These students will be split into two groups. Group 1 will attend school on Mondays and Tuesdays. Group 2 will attend school on Thursdays and Fridays. All students will participate in remote learning on days when they are not in school.

  • 1st-5th grade students will return Monday, Oct. 19, 2020.
  • These students will be split into two groups. Group 1 will attend school on Mondays and Tuesdays. Group 2 will attend school on Thursdays and Fridays. All students will participate in remote learning on days when they are not in school.

No decision has been made regarding a return to school date for grades 6-12. These grades are still in the planning phase with our schools and district administration. This information will be shared once it has been approved by the board of education.

In the days ahead schools will be communicating with families any specific information related to your child’s return to school.
