Johnston County Public Schools is in the business of providing a holistic educational experience that affirms and prepares our students for successful lives by teaching not only academic disciplines but how to treat one another. We are aware of recent social media posts and other unacceptable actions that have brought attention to racial and political insensitivity, which this school district does not condone.
Johnston County Public Schools wants to assure our students, staff, and community that behaviors that attack the civil liberties of our fellow human beings are unacceptable, divisive, and destructive. We denounce any and all such behavior.
Johnston County Public Schools strives to address behaviors and interactions that destroy one another. We are committed to increasing student achievement in a safe environment that values equity, and where caring adults believe that all students can succeed by developing strategies for erasing biases. As was noted in a December Open Letter from then-Interim Superintendent Dr. Jim Causby, it is essential that behavior is demonstrated which appreciates and values the individual opinions, beliefs, and cultures of all of our students and staff within Johnston County Public Schools.
The Office of Equity, Information and Student Services is leading our efforts toward a culture of equity by facilitating the development of ongoing processes that make a positive impact on the student learning environment and ultimately student achievement. This, we believe, is non-negotiable. But this department is not doing-- and cannot do-- this work alone. Please stand with us as we forge ahead toward this goal.
