WSE Students Receive Honorable Mention in NC Farm to Schools Art Contest

North Carolina is a diverse agricultural state. Our farmers grow a variety of fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, seafood, horticultural and forestry products. The NC Farm to Schools Initiative sponsored a calendar art contest.  This calendar will highlight the diversity of our agriculture throughout the state. THIRTEEN entries from across North Carolina were chosen to illustrate the calendar for the 2019-20 school year. All North Carolina public school students in grades Kindergarten through Five were eligible to participate.

West Smithfield Elementary students sent in entries for this contest.  Only four students from the entire Johnston County Public Schools district placed in this contest, two of which were from West Smithfield Elementary!   The artwork from these students will be posted to the NC Farm to School website (www.ncfarmtoschool.com) after May 17.  Congratulations to the following WSE students who won Honorable Mention:

Rubi Ilinanda-Perez - 3rd Grade

Brenda Alonso - 4th Grade
